Advance Footwork - Pendulum Step π₯
This week's theme at Santa Cruz Boxing is advanced footwork.
We'll be working on the pendulum step, quarter turns, dominating angles, check hooks, and the Tyson shuffle.
One thing I've noticed over the years is that footwork doesn't work very well when you "kind of" do it.
You can't halfway create an angle.
You can't halfway pivot.
You can't halfway commit to a check hook.
You either move your feet or you don't.
The funny thing is that lesson applies outside the gym too.
Most people think boxing is about punches. Experienced boxers know it's often about position.
The same is true in life.
Sometimes the difference between success and frustration isn't working harder. It's taking one step to the side and seeing things from a different angle.
This week, don't just throw punches.
Move your feet.
Create better angles.
See what opens up.
We are in your corner.

Pt 2 on Blocking and Defense! π₯
This week at Santa Cruz Boxing, we're focusing on Blocking and Defense! π₯
Sometimes growth isn't about adding more.
Sometimes it's about clearing out what's getting in the way.
This week at Santa Cruz Boxing, we're focusing on blocking and defense. Most people come into boxing wanting to learn how to punch harder and move faster. But before we can build new skills, we often have to correct old habits.
Dropping your hands.
Closing your eyes.
Standing too tall.
Letting fear or frustration take over.
Growth isn't always exciting. Sometimes it's simply removing the things that are holding us back.
The same is true outside the gym.
Whether it's a bad habit, negative self talk, self doubt, or just being stuck in the same routine, making room for growth often starts by letting something go.
That's one of the reasons coaching matters.
Sometimes we all need someone in our corner to help us see what we can't see ourselves, encourage us when progress feels slow, and remind us that growth is still happening.
This week, protect yourself. Trust the process. Keep showing up.
We are in your corner.
Let hear it for this months BOM π₯ - Amy Gomez! Amy has been attending Santa Cruz Boxing regularly for over 4 months, starting as a way to stay active.
" I really believe in something I call βthe point of no returnβ with your body and health. Once you hit that point, itβs incredibly difficult to reverse the effects of inactivity. I saw the ad for the intro special at Santa Cruz Boxing and decided to challenge myself with something different." Amy can bulldoze anything that comes her way and has become a straight machine! Thank you for being apart of our community, Amy! We are proud to train athletes like you! πͺ
