Select 8th graders from Scott Middle School—along with their parents—took on an unforgettable STEM challenge: "Stones and Bones: The Journey Through Time!" ⏳✨
Our student engineers and parent partners recreated an active archaeological dig, mapping out distinct rock strata and the fossilized organisms preserved inside them. But there was a physics twist! Their "archaeologist" was actually a marble that needed to travel through each historical layer, requiring teams to calculate and harness potential and kinetic energy to engineer a smooth pathway through time. 🎢🪨
To keep our time travelers fueled, teams enjoyed era-themed snacks representing the timeline of Earth: 🍿 Popcorn for the ancient Precambrian Era
🐟 Goldfish for the marine-rich Paleozoic Era
🦕 Dinosaur Gummies for the iconic Mesozoic Era
🍬 M&Ms for our modern Cenozoic Era
💧 ...and Water, the one element essential to life since the very beginning!
The excitement didn't stop with the science—parents also went head-to-head in a friendly, high-stakes game of Rock, Paper, Scissors for a chance to win a Smart Watch! ⌚🪨✂️📄
Huge shoutout to all of our Scott Middle School students and families who brought creativity, engineering, and serious energy to this event!
