After almost a decade of owning a nanny agency, you start to recognize patterns. 👀

Not because every family or nanny is the same (they absolutely aren’t) but because some things come up over and over again.

If a family can’t clearly explain the schedule during the interview process, the schedule will probably keep changing once the nanny starts.

"Light housekeeping” needs a definition. To one family, it means bottles, children’s laundry and cleaning up after the kids. To another, it somehow turns into cleaning the garage, family laundry and “while you’re at it…” 😅

The way someone communicates during the hiring process is usually the way they’ll communicate once they’re hired. This goes for families and nannies.

The family that says, “We’ll figure out guaranteed hours later” usually isn’t going to magically understand guaranteed hours later.

When a nanny constantly speaks negatively about every former employer, I pay attention. And when a family tells me every nanny they’ve ever had was the problem? I pay attention to that too.

The best placements aren't always the ones that look perfect on paper. Personality, communication style, expectations and how people naturally interact matter SO much more than most people realize.

And probably the biggest one…

When something feels off during the hiring process, it usually doesn’t feel less off six months later.

After doing this for nearly 10 years, I’ve learned that matchmaking isn't just about experience, schedules and hourly rates.

A huge part of this job is noticing the little things, and knowing which little things tend to become big things later. 🤍

That’s the part of nanny placement you can’t automate.

Today we’re celebrating our founder and owner, Jillian!

While we won’t share the number of candles on the cake 😉, we will share this, Jillian has spent over 20 years dedicated to the childcare industry.

From her early days as a nanny, to her experience in early childhood education, to building The Nanny Hub from the ground up, her passion has always been the same: creating meaningful connections between families and childcare professionals.

What started as a love for caring for children grew into a mission to change the way families find childcare and to advocate for the incredible nannies who make such an impact every day.

Over the years, Jillian has supported countless families, mentored childcare professionals, and built The Nanny Hub into a community rooted in trust, compassion, and finding the right match, not just any match.

Her dedication, attention to detail, and genuine care for every family and nanny she works with are what make The Nanny Hub so special.

So today, we celebrate not just another year around the sun, but the person who pours her heart into this business every single day.

Happy Birthday, Jillian! 🤍

Finding someone who will care for your children, become part of your household, and be trusted inside your home is not something that should be rushed or treated like a simple transaction.

Behind every successful nanny placement is hours of work that families don’t always see:
🤍 Recruiting and sourcing qualified childcare professionals
🤍 Reviewing applications and conducting interviews
🤍 Checking references and verifying experience
🤍 Completing background checks and screening steps
🤍 Understanding personalities, parenting styles, and family dynamics
🤍 Matching the right nanny, not just an available nanny

The process of finding the right person to care for your children takes time, expertise, and attention to detail.

And if hiring someone to do all of this came with a surprisingly low price tag, it’s fair to ask: what corners are being cut?

When it comes to childcare, the cheapest option is rarely the best option.

The value comes from the confidence that someone has taken the time to truly vet, understand, and advocate for the person coming into your home.

At The Nanny Hub, we believe in the right matches.

Because your children deserve more than just childcare, they deserve someone who is the right fit for your family. 🤍

A little reminder for our nanny community: if an agency introduces you to a family, there is a reason there is a process in place.

Your agency is there to advocate for you, help set clear expectations, support negotiations, and make sure both you and the family are entering the relationship with honesty and respect.

If a family tries to go around the agency after an introduction has been made, consider that a red flag. A family who is willing to disregard an agreement with a small business that worked hard to create the connection will not honor the commitments they make to you either.

Guaranteed hours? Compensation? Benefits? Schedule expectations? Professional communication? These things matter, and they should always be backed by a family who values doing things the right way.

Remember: the way someone starts a professional relationship often tells you a lot about how they will maintain it.

Your work is valuable. Your time is valuable. You deserve a family who respects not only the care you provide, but also the process that brought you together.

We’re always here to advocate for our nanny community and help you find families who truly value you.

Nine years ago, The Nanny Hub was just an idea.

I was working an overnight shift with what I still consider my perfect fit nanny family. They were wonderful, and I remember sitting there after everyone had gone to bed thinking...

What's going to happen after this?

I loved being a nanny, but I knew I wanted to make an even bigger impact. I wanted to help more families experience the kind of relationship I had with that family, and I wanted incredible nannies to find positions where they were truly valued.

At the time, my boss was a business owner herself. Watching her build something of her own planted a seed that maybe... just maybe... I could do the same.

Around that same time, I was reading *You Are a Badass* by Jen Sincero. That book gave me the confidence to stop wondering if I could do it and start believing that I should.

Within a couple of weeks, I had landed on a name that felt just right: The Nanny Hub.

I remember running to Town Hall to register my business. There wasn't a big business plan or a perfect roadmap. Just a dream, a lot of passion, and the belief that families and nannies deserved a more personal, relationship-focused approach to childcare.

Fast forward nine years...

We've had the honor of helping hundreds of families find exceptional caregivers, supporting incredible nannies throughout their careers, celebrating new babies, growing families, and lifelong connections that started with a simple introduction.

There have been long days, hard lessons, exciting wins, and more gratitude than I can put into words.

Through it all, one thing has never changed: my heart for this industry and my commitment to doing right by both families and nannies.

To everyone who has trusted The Nanny Hub over the past nine years, thank you. Whether you've hired through us, worked with us, referred a friend, shared our posts, or simply cheered us on from the sidelines, you've been part of this journey.

Nine years later, I still wake up excited to do this work.

Here's to the next chapter. 🤍✨

Happy 9th Birthday, The Nanny Hub.

Nannying can be an incredibly rewarding career, but it can also feel isolating. Unlike many traditional workplaces, nannies often spend their days working independently without coworkers nearby to share experiences, advice, or support.

That’s why building a strong nanny community matters.

Your nanny friends become:
☕ Someone to grab coffee with and talk through the day-to-day
💬 A resource for advice, encouragement, and industry insight
🌱 A support system as you grow in your career
🤍 A reminder that you’re never navigating this profession alone

Your community can also include nanny agencies. A great agency should be more than just a place to find your next position, they should be a resource, advocate, and support system throughout your career, whether you’re actively searching for a role or simply looking for guidance and connection.

At The Nanny Hub, we believe the nanny industry is stronger when we lift each other up, share knowledge, and create meaningful connections.

✨ Tag your nanny bestie and spread the love! ✨

Because behind every great nanny is a community that believes in them.

What Does a Family Assistant Actually Do?

One of the most common questions we hear from families is, "What's the difference between a nanny and a family assistant?"

While both roles involve caring for children, a Family Assistant takes on additional household responsibilities to help keep your home and family running smoothly, especially during the busy school-age years.

A Family Assistant's responsibilities may include:
✔️ School pick-up and drop-off
✔️ Driving children to activities and appointments
✔️ Meal preparation for the children or family
✔️ Children's laundry and organizing bedrooms/playrooms
✔️ Loading and unloading the dishwasher
✔️ Running errands such as grocery shopping, dry cleaning, or returning packages
✔️ Keeping common family areas tidy throughout the day
✔️ Organizing closets, pantries, and household supplies
✔️ Helping with homework and after-school routines

What a Family Assistant doesn't do:
❌ Deep cleaning your home
❌ Replacing a professional housekeeper
❌ Completing heavy household chores unrelated to the children or agreed-upon family support

Think of a Family Assistant as an extension of your family, someone who provides exceptional childcare while also helping lighten the mental load that comes with managing a busy household.

This role is often the perfect fit for families with school-aged children who don't need full-time childcare but could greatly benefit from an extra set of capable hands.

At The Nanny Hub, we carefully match families with experienced professionals based on their unique needs and lifestyle. Every family is different, and we'll help determine whether a nanny, family assistant, or another household professional is the best fit for your home.

Have questions about which role is right for your family? We'd love to help! Send us a message or schedule a consultation, and we'll walk you through your options.
