🌙✨ Pajama Week at Linked in Literacy! ✨🌙

We are slowly getting ready for the busy back to school season with cozy pajamas, flashlights, glow bracelets…and lots of literacy fun! 📚🔦

This week, students practiced their skills with a little pajama-day twist. They read by flashlight, lit up their sessions with glow bracelets, and even used letter Cheez-Its to work on spelling!

We also snuck in some ABC order and dictionary skills as students practiced putting letters in order and learning how to find them quickly and efficiently.

And, of course, a few Cheez-Its may have disappeared as a snack along the way. 😉😂

Because at Linked in Literacy, even serious reading and spelling work can feel fun, memorable, and a little bit magical.

Getting intensive intervention 5 days a week at school is always going to be my recommendation, but we need to build a model that trains teachers AND allows them the time with these kiddos!

🎉 Last week was Fidget Week at Linked in Literacy! 🎉

Who says learning has to happen sitting perfectly still? 😉

This week we put fidgets to work! From spinning our way through reading our words to scratching colorful words and sentences onto black paper, our students discovered that movement can actually support attention, memory, and learning.

At Linked in Literacy, we don’t use fidgets as toys; we use them as purposeful tools to help students:
🧠 Stay focused
✋ Keep busy hands engaged
📚 Strengthen memory and retrieval
🎯 Make learning fun and meaningful

When movement is paired with evidence-based instruction, amazing things can happen!

🦖⛏️ Last week was “Dinosaur Dig” at Linked in Literacy!

Who says reading intervention can’t feel like an adventure? Our students became junior paleontologists as they dug through kinetic sand to uncover hidden dinosaur words! 🦕🦴

Each word they discover is another opportunity to strengthen:
✨ Phonemic awareness
✨ Decoding skills
✨ Reading fluency
✨ Spelling and word recognition

After excavating their “fossils,” students practiced spelling words in the kinetic sand with various tools!

At Linked in Literacy, we know that when students are actively engaged, learning sticks!

🧪🧠 Science Week at Linked in Literacy! 🧠🧪

This week, our students stepped into the role of scientists as they investigated one of the trickiest parts of reading: irregular words!

Using a little baking soda, vinegar, food coloring, and lots of excitement, students made their irregular words explode as they read and identified them. 💥📖

Why all the fun? Because learning sticks when children are actively engaged. Multisensory instruction helps students build stronger connections by combining movement, touch, sight, and sound…an approach supported by the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy.

Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs happen when learning looks a little messy!

What may look like a simple science experiment is actually purposeful reading instruction designed to strengthen automatic recognition of high-frequency irregular words—an essential skill for becoming a fluent reader.

Because when kids are having fun, they’re often learning the most. ❤️

🇺🇸 Red, White & Blue Week! ❤️🤍💙

Last week at Linked in Literacy, we celebrated the 250th with patriotic, hands-on learning that kept reading and spelling engaging every step of the way!

⭐ Students used red, white, and blue Play-Doh to build words, strengthening letter formation, spelling patterns, and phonics skills through multisensory learning.

⭐ We also practiced writing words in bright red sensory sand, giving students another fun way to reinforce reading and spelling while engaging multiple senses.

All families were sent home with materials and directions to continue practicing until next week!

When learning is interactive, meaningful, and evidence-based, students stay motivated…and that’s when real growth happens!

🐞⛺ Camping with Bugs Week was a Buzzing Success at Linked in Literacy! ⛺🐞

Last week, we headed into the great outdoors- literacy style! Through hands-on, multisensory activities, students explored reading, spelling, and language skills while diving into a fun camping and bug-themed adventure.

Students enjoyed:
🐜 Bug hunts for words and sentences
🪲 Sorting and reading bug-themed cards
🐝 Sensory-based spelling activities
🎣 Interactive activities that kept learning engaging and memorable

We believe children learn best when instruction is meaningful, interactive, and fun. By combining evidence-based Structured Literacy practices with creative themes, students stay motivated while building important reading and spelling skills.

📸 The star of the show was one of our bug-themed activities where students searched for ‘word insects’ that were hidden among colorful sensory materials!
