Container Syndrome is a term used to describe the lack of skill in infants who are not allowed ample movement opportunities. Container Baby Syndrome is the result of an infant being placed in a container for an excessive amount of time during the day. This extended time leads to structural, movement, and behavioral challenges as a result.

Baby containers include baby equipment and items such as:

👣Strollers
👣Bumbo seats
👣Bouncy seats and swings
👣Rockers
👣Nursing cushions
👣Vibrating chairs
👣Jumpers
👣Exersaucers

All of the time spent in these baby containers adds up! When in a positioning device such as the ones listed above, little ones are limited in the motor development that results from stretching, wiggling, turning, reaching, and otherwise moving.

FACT: We are stronger together. Even when we can't be around one another, we can still reach out through phone calls, texts, emails and video. Social connections are particularly important during challenging times.

TIP: Do activities that help your child feel connected with others. You might look at family photos, write a letter to a friend or call a family member and have a snack while you are on the phone together.

FACT: Learning letter sounds is a big step in learning to read. A great place to begin is with the first letter in your child's name.

TIP: As you sit together, help your child find the first letter in their name on a magazine: "Look, it's 👎 for Nate! Can your child make the 👎 sound?"

GROWTH: Keep making letter sounds. Now take turns listing words that start with the first letter in your child's name. Can each of you think of three words?
