Hola from Costa Rica! My name is Lizzi and I’m a 3rd year double majoring in Social Work and Criminal Justice with a minor in Spanish. This summer I am studying abroad in Heredia, Costa Rica for a total of 11 weeks.

We just finished our first summer session in which I took Spanish Composition and Oral Skills and Tropical Conservation Biology for credit. I also took Dances of Latin America and Latin American Cuisine for extra cultural immersion. Next session, I will take Intermediate Spanish 2 and Climate Change and Society.

We go on a couple group excursions throughout the program. We are currently on the optional Biodiversity Tour between sessions. Costa Rica is home to 6% of the world’s biodiversity and there are so many beautiful places to visit.

Follow along this week for a look into the life of a study abroad student in Costa Rica!

When class is not in session, Limerick summer students get a chance to go on excursions and tours! This summer, I went to (in order with pics) Galway, Dublin, Cliffs of Moher, and Di**le!

Going on these excursions pushes you outside your comfort zone and expands your knowledge on your host country (very important)!

All places were amazing, but Di**le holds a special place in my heart. The town couldn’t be cuter, and there were amazing views of the ocean along the peninsula! Plus… I got to hold a baby lamb for 5 euro. Who could pass that up?!

Visiting museums and seeing famous art in person is a perk of studying abroad. Check out where you can study abroad to be close to famous artwork.

STUDIES!

Hello Blugolds! Lydia here one last time to help give you insights into course work & experiential learning at Harlaxton College 🇬🇧

All courses taken at Harlaxton allow for experiential learning where you step out of the classroom & into the nearby communities to apply the knowledge you’ve learned!

London — my class did a Harry Potter walking tour to learn more about the franchise! Fun fact many production agencies prefer to film in the UK due to the major tax benefits.

Leicester — my International Business course visited the Leicester Tigers Football Club. This stadium is where the tigers dominate in Rugby and have expanded into a thriving franchise!

Grantham — during one of my free days I tagged along with the Multicultural Understanding course to volunteer at the local Mini Olympics! It was very insightful to teach English schoolchildren American baseball and see how eager they were to learn!

&& of course a croissant break 🤗

I would like to thank the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Study Abroad Scholarship Committee for their support in providing me the Global Awareness-Study Abroad scholarship! This has allowed me to explore and learn in the UK!
Blugolds!!! Don’t forget to apply for all the scholarships offered on Gold for Blugolds 🩵

Thank you for tagging along & leaning more about Harlaxton College

LONDON! LONDON! LONDON!

every term includes a trip down to London for experiential learning! The course I’m taking is on International Business & is focusing on the Harry Potter franchise! So so cool, I know 😝

From history, great eats, lively neighborhoods, and your favorite movie locations — London truly offers it all!

I loved my time in the city & learned even more about the Harry Potter franchise on my walking tour!

This trip allowed me to expand on my curiosity skills through the AAC&U concepts!

안녕하세요! 🌸

One of my favorite parts of studying abroad has been exploring different corners of Korea. From Seoul to Busan to Jeju, every place offered something unique and allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone.

These experiences helped me develop greater openness by encouraging me to experience new perspectives, cultures, and ways of life. Some of my best memories this semester came from simply staying curious, saying yes to new experiences, and seeing where they would take me. 🌸🌊

G’day Blugolds! Did you know that the City of Eau Claire has a sister city in Australia? The City of Lismore is known for its rolling hills, proximity to coastal beaches, and Southern Cross University (SCU)! While Lismore is the scene for the arts and music, SCU’s campus is tucked away from the city center in a rich rainforest. In fact, it is not uncommon to come across a koala on the way to class. Lismore is passionate about encouraging students to volunteer in local organizations such as local festivals, community organizations, and the Koala Hospital. Students also have the option of attending SCU’s new Gold Coast campus which primarily focuses on business majors. Sound exciting? Book an appointment with us to talk about your options for studying in Australia! Link in our bio!
