During my time abroad, I learned so much about different cultures, languages, and the ways other countries address important issues such as environmental conservation and waste management. One of my favorite memories was going on a biodiversity tour with my friends, where I learned about Costa Rica’s incredible ecosystems, went ziplining, and snorkeled while experiencing its unique natural beauty. Overall, this experience taught me a great deal about myself and the world beyond what I had previously known. I especially loved experiencing the diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes, and I will always remember my wonderful host family, the amazing food, and the kindness and hospitality of everyone I met. I am very thankful for my scholarship, which made this experience possible and allowed me to grow both personally and academically in ways I never imagined, and could have never done without this opportunity. - Greta, Costa Rica Summer 2026

Hi everyone!
I flew back to Wisconsin and for my last post I wanted to cover housing and the commencement ceremony!

Yonsei offers on campus housing: SK Global House, International House, and woojungwon! They’re dorm style and depending on what hall you get, you either share the room with one person or up to 3. I didn’t get on campus housing so I rented off campus! It was a 15 minute commute by walking and 5 minute commute by bus! Super nearby campus and the area I was in, there were many stores and cafes as well.

I had the opportunity to participate in Yonsei’s commencement ceremony where there was many different performances and experience Yonsei’s cheer songs lead by their cheer team called the Akaraka!

Hello everyone! Rose here again.
In this reel, I am showing you what a typical day looks like when I’m abroad. I attend pop ups that happens around Sinchon, where the main Yonsei campus is located and I go to this cafe that is a two minute walk from campus to study and do my readings!
This week is my final week here in Korea and I also had my final exam today. I’ve learned a lot and the hard work definitely paid off at the end!

During my abroad here in Korea, I’ve definitely opened up to this new culture and environment. At first, I felt homesick and alone but I opened up to new opportunities such as: learning the language, connecting with classmates, and even locals! So far I’ve learned simple Korean terms that helped me navigate a big city like Seoul. Adjusting was difficult at first however, I felt like a local towards the end of my semester abroad. I easily navigated the public transportation system that seemed impossible to navigate at first and also was familiar with my neighborhood where my apartment is located. Reflecting back, I’m glad I continued my journey abroad in Korea and found many connections that made this great experience abroad.

여러분 안녕하세요! My name is Rose and I am taking over this week! I am a third year majoring in Nursing at UWEC with two certificates!
Currently, I am studying at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. I am a part of this program through USAC - University Studies Abroad and Yonsei’s international summer school (YISS). The university is one of the most prestigious schools in Korea, they’re known for their business program, science and technology, and medical school. One of the things that stood out to me is, the student life. There is always something to do on campus and events happening in the area too!
For Yonsei’s summer program, you have the option to take 1-3 three credit classes for 6 weeks or 4. I am taking one 6-weeks course here, Introduction to Korean Studies and I’ve been learning the history and culture of Korea! This course aligns with my goal to learn more about different cultures and their communities.
One fun fact I’ve learned while living in Seoul is, it was recognized to be the most walkable city in the world! Based on my experience, I can say it is true!

Living on the University of Stirling campus in an apartment style flat, you’ll have access to a kitchen where you’re expected to provide for yourself lunch and dinner.

They have buses that take you into Stirling city center, there you can find a shopping mall, restaurants/pubs, and grocery stores aren’t a far walk. Public transportation is huge here but someone is always willing to help and answer questions if you have trouble finding your way.

One thing I want to make sure that I say before I end my instagram takeover is that I, and everyone I met can agree that the people here in Scotland have been incredibly kind and helpful to us as tourists. It can be intimidating traveling as an American to other countries but no matter where else anyone has traveled, they say the people here set the bar high!

Overall I’m incredibly grateful for this experience and the scholarships that helped make this possible. I can’t express how much this opportunity has taught me and I look forward to being able to visit sometime again in the future!

My favorite thing I’ve done this month is being able to do a tour of the highlands through a partnership the University of Stirling has. Throughout a weekend you stop at Glencoe mountains, Glenfinnan Viaduct (the Harry Potter bridge), Loch Ness, and an entire day in the Isle of Skye.

Some interesting things I learned on this trip was that Scotland produces 113% of its power through renewable energy.

And even though English in the main language in Scotland, Scottish Gaelic is still very popular within the highlands and all the signs past a certain point all signs are in Gaelic with the English translation underneath. (Last photo of city sign shows this!)

Hi! My name is Hayden, I’m an incoming senior studying marketing and art and this July I’ve been taking a landscape photography course in Stirling, Scotland.

One thing I’ve loved about living here in Stirling is being able to experience the culture in a smaller city. The city is famous for Stirling castle which is known for being the castle Mary Queen of Scots lived for years!
