About me
My name is Lisa Muscedere and my life revolves around my kitchen. It’s where I write, create, experience, sense, think, and act. I am a self-trained/family taught/culinary school educated instructor who happened to turn my love of food into something fun. I grew up in the kitchen of my mother and aunt’s Italian deli; where they make homemade pastas’, meatballs, sausage, sauce , cookies and many other delicious Italian specialties. While in college, I decided to study abroad in Rome, Italy because I had my grandparents , aunts and uncles there! While I was there, I picked up on how Italians’ incorporate fresh vegetables into almost every dish and how they buy everything in small quantities to keep everything fresh. After I graduated college, I wanted to explore the culinary world a bit more so I attended The Institute of Culinary Education in Manhattan and trained with Chef Faith Drobbin. I learned so much from her; Tempering chocolate to making various breads. I took that knowledge and put two things that I love to do together; teaching and cooking/baking! Weekly classes are the perfect place for adults, teens and “young chefs” to sharpen cooking skills and stir-up creativity as they explore different spices, vegetables and herbs to make their dishes delicious! My curriculum is designed to expand learning into the areas of math, science, history and important cognitive skills for teens and “young chefs”. Parents love watching their “young chef” grow with confidence and knowledge as they create these recipes at home and develop life-long skills while having fun! We always cook fresh food, and use local ingredients whenever possible. We will discuss the origin of the meal we are making before starting our day and discuss the ingredients we will be using as well. Each student will write down the recipes as I explain them and at the end of class they will be able to taste their creations! We always have left overs, so you can share what you have made at home! Adult students will have recipe sheets and directions already printed for them! Young chefs will learn basics in:
Kitchen safety
Proper food handling
Food Preparation
Cooking and Baking techniques
Presentation
Table Setting
Herb Identification
These classes are designed for students 6 years of age and up.
