It's Not Too Late! SUNY Schenectady School of Music

It is not too late to apply or audition at the SUNY Schenectady School of Music for Fall 2026.

We have two audition days next month on Friday, May 22 and Tuesday, May 26. If students cannot attend either day, we can arrange an individual weekday audition.

More information on the music audition process can be found here:
https://sunysccc.edu/Academics/School-of-Music/Audition-Requirements.html

We are also happy to chat with anyone interested in our non-auditioned certificate programs.

If you know of a student who wants to arrange a visit to sit in on classes, rehearsals, or performances, we are happy to arrange that as well. Event tickets for all prospective students are free.

Contact 518-381-1231 or [email protected] for more information.

SUNY Schenectady School of Music students Mark Ferri and Lyra Lenigk are performing the world premiere of Mark Ferri’s new violin sonata under the directorship of Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz. We are so excited to hear them perform! And for the audience, an added drawcard is the chance to be in the TV audience for this televised and radio broadcast. All of your Classical WMHT hosts hosting.

The ticketing news is that we have spoken with the Troy Music Hall, and together we have decided to convert the ticket system for this concert to Pay-what-you-will. Now live on the Troy Music Hall website, price codes are listed between $1.00 and $20.00 - create your own! On the understanding that WMHT is, at the same time, hoping to recoup some of our costs for mounting this festival. But we want to enable absolutely as many of you as possible to come and experience and support this amazing event and are so happy that the hall is behind us in this.

Meet the Next Generation: SUNY Schenectady County Community College!

Mark Ferri, a composer, pianist, and clarinetist studying clarinet performance. His compositions draw inspiration from composers like Samuel Barber and Vaughan Williams, as well as video game soundtracks from Minecraft, and Zelda: Breath of the Wild, creating whimsical, colorful soundscapes with an ambient, quintal-forward style, and charming melodies. Mark plans to continue his studies at SUNY Purchase, pursuing a bachelor's degree in clarinet performance, and classical composition.

Lyra Lenigk, a 17-year-old violinist studying at the SUNY Schenectady School of Music and a member of the Union College and Community Orchestra. She has performed at masterclasses by the Trio Azura, Verona Quartet, and Quatuor Agate. She aspires to be a professional chamber musician and advocate for diversity in classical music repertoire.

See them perform March 22nd at 3pm at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall!

Support for the Next Generation Festival has been provided by John Keal Music Company and Fenimore Asset Management.

Join Musicians of Ma’alwyck in honoring the 95th birthday of legendary American composer David Amram, a genre-defying icon whose seven-decade career has earned him "rockstar" status in the classical music world.

We celebrate this milestone with a beatnik-inspired concert featuring a special performance by the composer himself.
