Happy Labor Day, SMS Friends!
Today we celebrate all those whose work, dedication, and service help make our world a better place. For us at SMS, Labor Day also marks the unofficial end of summer and the exciting beginning of a brand-new school year—and this year, we are especially grateful. ❤️
Throughout the summer, so many people generously shared their time, talents, energy, and muscle with our school! Our incredible Summer Camp staff created six weeks of fun, learning, laughter, faith, and memories for nearly 100 campers. At the very same time, SMS families, friends, and staff were hard at work behind the scenes preparing our building for another wonderful school year.
We simply could not have done it without you.
A very special thank you to and Michael F Sauer, who took on the enormous job of stripping and waxing our classroom floors. And that job came with another Herculean task—every single piece of furniture had to come out of those classrooms first! So many parents and friends showed up to lend their strength, and then came back again to carefully put it all together when the floors were finished.
There were people moving furniture, cleaning, organizing, repairing, painting, preparing classrooms, caring for our grounds, working with our campers, and doing countless other jobs—many that most people will never even see. Please know that I saw them, I appreciated them, and I am deeply grateful.
Our school is ready to welcome our children because so many people chose to give something incredibly valuable—their time—to make it happen. That is what makes SMS so special. We don't just talk about being a family; when there is work to be done, our SMS family shows up. ❤️
As we begin this new year, I keep thinking of these words:

Thank you for helping make our little corner of the world a better place—and perhaps even more importantly, thank you for modeling service, hard work, generosity, and community for our students. By watching you, they are learning what it means to show up for others. And that just might create a whole new generation of helpers, workers, and world-changers. ❤️
