Our top ten reasons why Tennis Tuesdays are an important part of our curriculum foundation

1. Builds Hand-Eye Coordination
Tennis naturally teaches children to track and connect with a moving object.

* 2s: watching and tapping balloons/balls
* 3s: hitting off a bounce
* 4s: controlled racket-to-ball contact

2. Develops Balance & Body Control
Children learn to stabilize their bodies while reaching, swinging, and moving.

* Improves core strength and posture
* Helps prevent clumsy movement patterns

3. Encourages Bilateral Coordination
Using both sides of the body together (holding racket + tracking ball) strengthens brain-body connections.

4. Improves Agility & Footwork
Even simple tennis games require starting, stopping, and changing direction.

* Builds quick reactions
* Strengthens lower body muscles

5. Strengthens Large Muscle Groups
Running, swinging, and reaching engage arms, legs, and core—key for gross motor growth.

6. Enhances Spatial Awareness
Kids learn where their body is in relation to:

* The ball
* The racket
* Other children
This is critical for safe movement in group settings.

7. Supports Motor Planning Skills
Tennis requires thinking and moving at the same time (“Where is the ball going? What do I do next?”).

* Builds sequencing and coordination
* Prepares for more complex physical tasks

8. Boosts Reaction Time
Responding to a ball improves processing speed and physical response—important for all sports and playground safety.

9. Builds Endurance & Energy Regulation
Short bursts of movement help young children:

* Develop stamina
* Learn to control energy levels throughout the day

10. Promotes Confidence in Movement
Tennis offers quick success moments (hitting, catching, chasing), which builds:

* Self-confidence
* Willingness to try new physical skills

Why Tennis Works Especially Well for Ages 2–4

* Equipment can be easily modified (foam balls, smaller rackets)
* Activities scale from simple (rolling/catching) to advanced (rallying)
* Keeps engagement high with constant movement and variety
* Blends structure with play—perfect for early childhood programs
