Check out “May the Words of My Mouth,” my moderately difficult setting of Psalm 19:14 for SATB choir with piano accompaniment. My publishers greatly prefer recordings of live performances over midi renderings. They then use these recordings to promote the sale of the sheet music. So if you can provide such a recording and I submit it to one of my publishers, with acceptance for publication I'd be happy to ask the publisher to include a dedication on the music to the performing choir and its director. This could be a fun, educational opportunity for choirs--something different! I have no deadline for this project. Message me if you’re interested. Follow the score and listen here: https://youtu.be/eFcYa4BEVts. Thanks!

WELCOME *RACHEL BLACK*
by Emily Tummons

As a Guild, we are blessed to have been joined by many new GTM members in recent months. In this article, we place a spotlight on one of them, and give you the opportunity to say hello to her! Please take a moment to read a bit about Rachel below, and begin to get to know one of our newest GTM members:

Rachel Black hails from Lawrence, Kansas, where she lives with her husband Eric and young daughter Cora. She has served synagogues in the region as a cantorial soloist, composer, religious school director, and more.

Recently she took the first step in making one of her greatest dreams come true: she began her first year of cantorial school, having been accepted to the H.L. Miller Cantorial School at JTS (Jewish Theological Seminary).

Like many of us in the Guild, Rachel’s love of music came early in life. As a young child, Rachel’s family lived in Jerusalem, and later moved to Rockville, Maryland, where she studied for her bat mitzvah at Congregation B’nai Tzedek. She began formal voice lessons that year. Rachel went on to earn her Bachelor of Music in Performance from Berklee College of Music.

She has traveled the world, singing at commemorations and special events, most notably at the House of Representatives, the Knesset, the National Press Club, and Temple Israel of the City of New York.

Rachel is a prolific songwriter. In addition to the secular music she’s written, she’s composed original music for Yom HaShoah, baby naming ceremonies, Yizkor, and Selichot themes. She is looking forward to getting to know other Jewish composers within the GTM!

She says, “My Jewish life, family history, and deep connection to prayer through song carry me through my daily life, defining me, and shaping my role in my family.” Rachel senses a clarified call now, “to learn more and to focus my energy towards one clear purpose: To serve the community by leading through prayer and song.”

Rachel, we all welcome you to the GTM! And we are happy to walk beside you on this journey.

Guild Talks Music June 10th at 4:30! Cantor Rosalie Boxt with speak on Sacred Partnership: Creating a shared vision for worship, including for what meaning making on the Holy Days might look like - between worship leaders and your lay people.
This session will help us begin to build a vocabulary to talk to our lay people about worship - still maintaining some expert leadership autonomy, but recognizing that worship is only as successful as the lay people who feel engaged in what we're all doing there anyway. We will use as part of the trigger, how to talk to your lay people now, about what the Holy Days mean to them, and to your sacred community.

[06/04/20]   calling all GTM-ers, and folks who are thinking of joining the GTM, here's a link (in the comments) to everything we need to know about how to jump in to this year's ACC-GTM (virtual & FREE) Convention. You'll find a PDF of the full schedule, info about the delightful music-sharing session (this year hosted by Bob Remstein), and so much more. Please join us!

THE CONVENTION IS STILL HAPPENING!
The ACC/GTM will hold its virtual convention Monday June 29-Wednesday July 1, 9 am-3 pm PST (12 pm-6 pm EST), with additional opportunities to gather in later hours on Monday and Tuesday. We are working to bring you professional development sessions, music sharing, T’filah, and the opportunity to gather and share the challenges of this moment. We are excited to share the full detailed schedule with you soon!

Convention attendance will require registration but no fee. Look out for registration in your email in upcoming weeks.

Many of you had already registered for and paid for the convention in San Diego. We are still working with Ayelet Tours and the hotel as we navigate this unforeseen situation. We assure you that we will be offering options for both refunding money and the ACC holding money to apply toward future conventions. We will share this information with you as soon as we are able to and appreciate your patience.

We look forward to gathering for three days of community, learning, inspiration and comfort!

Calling all ACC/GTM Members Who Have Lived or Worked on the West Coast!
We Need Your Input
The ACC/GTM Convention Concert in San Diego will be a Theatrical Narrative of West Coast Jewish Music and the Cantorate. With the help and guidance of theatre dybbuk, we want to gather your stories and experiences.
Please help us to make sure the narrative represents all of us by participating in one of three one-hour Zoom or in-person experiences.
We'll walk you through a free-writing exercise that will aid you in expressing the depth of our community and history. Following our sessions, Aaron Henne, the director of theatre dybbuk, will weave our words into a script. The concert chairs will then rework that script to include music, and the concert participants will perform the story and music.
Help Us Get the Word Out!
Please help us get the word out as well, especially to mentors and teachers of our region. We want to make sure all ACC and GTM people who have lived and worked on the West Coast are included.
Join us at one of the three gatherings via Zoom or, if you are local, in person!
Please note: ALL material will be shared anonymously and safely; you and your stories will be protected and honored.
This is a hallmark of theatre dybbuk and a promise we make to you. We know you will have a rich experience exploring your memories in this unique way. L’shalom! Alison Wissot, Susan Rosenstein, Patti Linsky and Perryne Anker
