The person selected for this position will be responsible for assisting a classroom teacher in the general supervision and management of a class of children between the ages of 2 and Six years old. This person must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the school’s educational philosophy.
The person selected for this position must have at least a GED or High School Diploma and have experience with children. All course study and experience will be verified.
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:
1. Assisting in planning and implementing the daily program, sharing ideas, and coordinating classroom responsibilities with the teacher
2. Provide a safe physical and emotional environment with appropriate expectations and limits for children
3. Be able to respond appropriately in an emergency
4. Helping children to become aware of their roles as integral members of a group
5. Rendering staff support to all classrooms and staff when necessary
6. Assisting in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies
7. Being responsible for the orderly arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom,
8. Rendering staff support (working as a team) to all programs and staff when necessary,
9. Assisting in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children,
10. Supervising children on the playground, in classrooms, and on field trips
11. Supervising the classroom when the teacher is out of the room
12. Communicating information about children to teacher in charge regarding health, safety, problems, concerns, etc
13. Helping with the general housekeeping tasks including preparing, serving, and cleaning up after snacks, lunches, parties, and other activities
14. Keeping daily attendance records
15. Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff,
16. Changing diapers and/or assisting children with toileting as needed
17. Attending all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences
18. Arranging with the Director for vacations, time off, or leaving early
19. Maintaining ongoing communication with the head teacher covering such topics as classroom curriculum, responsibilities, individual children, parents, and other topics related to the classroom,
20. Participating in required and recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth
