GaDOE is announcing the release of a first-of-its-kind state resource designed to strengthen school safety by connecting student support systems with behavioral threat assessment and management (BTAM).

The new resource was developed by GaDOE’s Office of Whole Child Supports in partnership with the United States Secret Service – National Threat Assessment Center, the National Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, and with input from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency.

For families and communities, implementation will mean schools are better equipped to notice concerns early, respond in appropriate ways, and connect students with support before situations become more serious.

A growing number of lawsuits against the online gaming platform Roblox is forcing a national, and increasingly local, reckoning about how safe digital spaces really are for children.

Notably, Attorney General Chris Carr has initiated an investigation after alarming cases of child endangerment connected to the game emerged.

In a February case cited by the state, two Florida girls reported missing were recovered in Georgia after communicating with an adult they met on Roblox and SnapChat. The alleged kidnapper was arrested and charged with two counts of kidnapping and two counts of interference with child custody in Martin County. He is currently jailed in Georgia.

With more than 144 million daily users globally, many of them under 13, Roblox has become one of the most influential platforms shaping childhood gaming today. A wave of voices, concerned parents, and lawmakers alike are demanding accountability as they grapple with the realization that the safety tools provided by platforms seem woefully inadequate.

As more families share their harrowing experiences, it’s a rallying call for stricter measures to protect the youngest and most vulnerable players.

Understanding Early Development: Newborn, Infant, and Toddler Stages

Child development happens in clear but overlapping stages, each with its own focus and milestones.

The newborn stage (birth to 3 months) is centered on adjustment, bonding, and basic survival needs.

Babies at this stage are learning to regulate through sleep, feeding, and connection with caregivers.

They rely heavily on reflexes and respond best to touch, soothing voices, and consistent care.

The infant stage (3–12 months) brings rapid growth in movement, communication, and curiosity about the world.

Babies begin rolling, sitting, crawling, and exploring objects with more intentional play.

They also develop early communication skills like babbling, gestures, and recognizing familiar voices and faces.

The toddler stage (1–3 years) focuses on independence, emotional expression, and early language growth.

Toddlers begin walking, climbing, and using words or short phrases to communicate needs and feelings.

Big emotions are common during this stage as self-control skills are still developing.

Across all stages, connection, consistency, and responsive caregiving are the foundation for healthy development.

Understanding these differences helps caregivers support children in ways that match their stage of growth.

Comment “EMOTION” for the reasons behind big emotions and emotional grounding trouble when a child has an underdeveloped limbic system.

The Limbic system is part of the lower levels of the brain, where emotional grounding takes place. When the limbic system is underdeveloped and the brain fails to build neural connections that support the limbic system, a child can’t automatically establish emotional grounding on their own.

If the limbic system and the lower levels of the brain are delayed or immature, you may notice the following:

😫Fight or flight response
😫Chronic fears
😫Meltdowns and tantrums
😫Big worries or sadness
😫Trouble self-regulating

Many children have trouble self-regulating and their emotions appear to be a rollercoaster every day. Parents often say their child’s emotions runs the whole household and they never know what may trigger their child.
