Part 2 … (repetition) 🙌🏽

✨ When it finally starts to click!

One of my 3rd grade scholars has been working through Topic 3 in the new Savvas Math curriculum, and today she finally found her rhythm with the distributive property! 🙌🏾

The breakthrough wasn’t about memorizing more steps; it was about slowing down and strengthening the skills underneath the skill.

We worked on:
📌 Breaking apart numbers in a way that makes sense
📌 Using skip counting to strengthen multiplication
📌 Creating a consistent setup so she knows exactly where her parentheses, numbers, and symbols belong

And then…she started working through it independently. 🩵

This is why I believe so strongly in meeting students where they are. Sometimes they don’t need the concept explained again. They need us to figure out which piece is keeping the whole concept from making sense.

Mom even shared that she uses our tutoring videos to help reinforce the learning at home. I love that our sessions can become a resource for the entire learning process!

Small skills build bigger skills. And sometimes, one little breakthrough changes everything. ✨

People often ask, “How do you know where to start when tutoring a student?”

The answer is simple: THE STANDARDS.

At Level Up, we don’t guess. We look at the logical progression of skills from one grade level to the next, consider what students will be expected to learn in the year ahead, and identify the concepts they are already strong in; as well as the areas that may need a little more support.

That gives us a clear starting point and helps us build a plan that prepares students to approach this year with confidence.

We use real data and personalized planning to make sure every tutoring session has a purpose and every activity moves the student forward.

Here’s an example of our 4th Grade Math: Year At A Glance resource. We create and use resources like this to help gather baseline data at the beginning of the year and determine where each scholar’s individualized learning plan should begin.

🎯 I'm so excited to introduce our new series: Sunday Success Goals!

One of the best gifts we can give our children this school year is the habit of setting goals. My hope is that this weekly series will help families build healthy habits, strong character, and consistent routines...one week at a time.

Ask your child to set their own goals. (Your job? Make sure they're not too vague. Keep them specific and measureable.)

Need help choosing the first two goals? I've put together a list of academic and personal goal ideas to help them get started!

Remember: Don't try to complete every goal on the list.

Throughout the week, check in with your child and encourage them to reflect by asking:

• Am I on track to meet my goals?
• What helped me succeed?
• What can I improve?
