Somatics is movement processing, as perceived from within, in a constant interchange with one's environment. Somatics emphasizes internal physical perception - proprioception - as a 1st-person-based approach to learning. Somatic practice develops one's emotional, physical, and mental mastery - by deepening conscious embodiment. Somatics Savannah offers opportunities for group and private practice that include movement re-patterning for greater efficiency, fluidity and movement longevity. Sessions focus on the use of kinetic energy and conscious movement process, rather than line or form as seen externally.

Single class $20; 4-week monthly fee $70; 5-week monthly fee $87; sliding scale for under- and unemployed. Zoom participation also available.

Tim O’Donnell - a New York based dance artist who studies, teaches, and performs in both the United States and Europe. His exploration in dance and movement is strongly rooted in deep physical listening and a sense of adventure. His classes range from the gentle and subtle to the acrobatic and fluidly athletic. He holds an MFA in Dance and has maintained a private practice in therapeutic bodywork and somatic movement since 1991. Currently he is on faculty at Movement Research and Arizona State University.

From a place of deep physical listening we will focus on cultivating responsiveness rather than re-activeness, recognizing and then altering known pathways, and composing through dialogue to create new layers and textures that deepen our expression of movement.

With care and attention we will pose and explore questions from both contemporary dance as well as contact improvisation, working through exercises and scores that will hone our skills as movers and thinkers.
