Yesterday we celebrated our amazing students and families who showed dedication, consistency, and commitment all year long with Perfect Attendance Tea Party!
Thank you parents and students for making attendance a priority!
We would also like to give a huge shout-out to our attendance team, counselors, and parent facilitator for the amazing job they did planning and hosting our school’s Perfect Attendance Tea for students and parents who achieved perfect attendance this year!
Especially Ms. Dixon our pre-k through 1 counselor. Without her vison and planning this would not have turned out so beautifully! Thank you Ms. Dixon!!
Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and thoughtful planning in making this event so special for our families and students.
A special thank you to the SWES PTO for contributing delicious treats and helping make the celebration even more memorable. Your support is greatly appreciated!
We are grateful to everyone who helped recognize and celebrate our students’ commitment to excellent attendance.

Last week our amazing art teacher Ms. Brown had a visiting artist come and introduce his work to 3rd and 4th grade GATE. He led them in an acid painting project.
Artist Profile: Stephen Bruce
San Francisco Bay Area-based artist and founder of the SKIDMORE Project. Mr. Bruce’s artwork has been featured in numerous television shows and films, including House, Law & Order, Criminal Minds, Californication, The Big Bang Theory, Home Economics, and American Housewife, as well as on movie sets such as The Matrix 4, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Endgame, Horrible Bosses, and The Social Network.

The SKIDMORE Project is an interactive, hands-on art and science experience for students in grades K–12. During the session, students “paint” on copper using common household items such as vinegar and citrus juices, creating chemical reactions that produce unique surface designs. Stephen is traveling across the country, offering this engaging STEAM experience to schools at no cost to participating institutions.
Thank you Ms. Brown for bringing Mr. Bruce to SWES and for giving our Gators this fantastic opportunity. Thank you to Mr. Bruce for sharing your talent and love of art!
A message from Mr. Heady sent yesterday to your phones:
Good afternoon Southwest Elementary Families!
Board of Education policy requires that we take attendance every day, up to and including the last day of school. Any absences a student receives will be counted, and teachers are required to take accurate attendance every day. Our school has made progress with our attendance rate this year and we do not want to see that progress disappear in the last few days of school. Please help us by ensuring your child is in attendance for these final days of school, including the last day on Thursday, May 21. We thank you for your support and cooperation with the school district attendance policy.
