This was the 1st Avenue School built in 1882. It sat where the playground was for the new 1916 Avenue School that still stands and has been owned by Allan and Adrian St. George since about 1989.

This familiar crossing guard location in front of the Avenue School was likely circa 1947. The boy in the photo might be Gary L. Law as this photo was kept by his father and mother Wade and Viola Law. Notice the bus was marked " Savanna City Bus, Inc.” The house shown sat approximately where the Savanna Ambulance Service parking lot has been since the 1990s. Although the girl's face was blocked by the pipe fencing, does anyone recognize her?
