Over the past two years, Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools has made approximately $12.25 million in budget reductions as the district has worked to align expenses with available revenue.
As the graphic below shows, these reductions have affected multiple areas of the district, including staffing, programs, facilities and operations. Changes have included staffing and administrative reductions, fewer secondary elective options, the elimination or reduction of some programs, facility changes and reductions to technology and other operational expenses.
Despite these reductions, a financial gap remains. Based on current financial projections, without additional funding, the district will face significant financial shortfalls in the coming years, requiring additional budget reductions.
On Nov. 3, PLSAS residents will vote on two school funding questions. Question 1, an operating levy, would provide approximately $10.27 million in additional first-year revenue to support classroom learning, day-to-day operations and school programs. Question 2, a capital projects levy, would provide approximately $3.8 million in first-year revenue for school safety, curriculum and textbooks, technology infrastructure and ongoing facility needs. Question 2 would only take effect if both questions are approved.
We encourage families to learn more about the district’s financial outlook, the two ballot questions, estimated tax impacts and voting information on the district’s referendum 2026 website at www.plsas.org/referendum.
