Did you know One91 school district has free Pre-Kindergarten for kids that are 4 years old as of Sept 1? I'm a Pre-K teacher at Hidden Valley and want to spread the word that we have many openings left at our site, and at some of the other neighborhood Elementary schools; especially in the afternoon program. Morning Classes fill up faster and are from 9am-12pm Tues through Friday. Afternoon classes have more availability and run from 12:55pm-3:55pm, Tuesday through Friday. Lunch is included and transportation if it's your neighborhood school.
Located at each of the district's neighborhood elementary schools, this part-time option immerses students in the elementary school experience, while offering a consistent schedule for children and families.

Schedule: 4 days per week, Tuesday-Friday, either morning or afternoon

Location: Neighborhood Elementary Schools

Cost: Free for ISD One91 residents, limited capacity

Ages: 4 years old by Sept 1, 2023 and not Kindergarten eligible

Meals: Meal service is available

Note: Independent toileting skills are required ( no pull ups)

To register, click this link and then the "neighborhood schools" button.

District 191 has adapted its prekindergarten model to fit the unique situation of this school year.

We believe parents are a child’s first and most influential teacher. Our prekindergarten program partners with parents to provide early learning experiences, materials and parent support and information to set a strong foundation for your child’s preschool.

Details about the Pre-K model are at: https://www.isd191.org/fall-2020/pre-kindergarten

You know what's better than saying "this food is good for you"? Tell them what foods do in their body! Why do I keep sharing this message? Because we keep selling our kids short labeling foods and good/bad, healthy/unhealthy. Here are some examples of messages I like for different ages:
⁣⠀⠀
For 2-3yo kids I usually break it down by color. Although it's not 100% accurate, it’s a good framework to get started. ⁣⠀⠀
❤️ Red: gives you a strong heart⁣⠀⠀
🧡 Orange: helps you see in the dark⁣⠀⠀
💛Yellow: helps your body heal cuts⁣⠀⠀
💚Green: gives you super powers to fight off sickness⁣⠀⠀
💜💙Blue and Purple: Give you a strong brain⁣⠀⠀
💟White: gives you energy⁣⠀⠀
⠀
For 4s and 5s you can start being more specific - like carrots and sweet potatoes help you be able to see in the dark. Clementines help your skin heal cuts. Broccoli helps your night vision, your skin heal, AND your bones be strong.⠀
⠀
For 4s/5s and 6s you can introduce the idea that some foods do a lot of things in their bodies and some foods do a few things.⠀
⠀
For 6s and 7s you can introduce the concept of vitamins and minerals - tell them HOW carrots protect their night vision (via vitamin A). Learn about the body.⠀
⠀
For 8s and 9s - learn even more about different things in foods. ⠀
⠀
And so on.⠀
⠀
All the while, model the way you want your kids to eat in your home and serve them the balanced diet you want them to eat. That's more powerful than anything you could ever tell them.⠀
⠀
If you need help getting your child to try new foods, my free child eating guide 🔥 From Stress to Success - 4 Ways to Help Your Child Eat Better without Losing Your Mind is in my bio .eat.in.color⠀

In an effort to better serve families who desire an only-online school option for their students, District 191 has created an option called One91 Virtual Academy, a program of Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 that offers high-quality, flexible learning opportunities.

We understand that many parents will need to see the district's plan for a hybrid or in-person model for school this fall before making a decision. However, we also know that some parents already have decided that they will choose 100% online for their students, so we wanted to open registration as soon as possible. The registration form will remain open until after the plan has been presented.

If you want to wait until you see the plan, you can do so without missing a chance to register. We will eventually set a deadline for registering and communicate that to parents as soon as possible.

For more information on One91 Virtual Academy and to register, visit www.isd191.org/virtualacademy.
