🌟 Final Summer Youth Program Spotlight 🌟

From beautifying outdoor spaces to helping prepare classrooms for the new school year, our Summer Youth Work & Learn students have been hard at work making a positive impact across the Eastern U.P.

Over the summer, this crew tackled projects including:

Weeding and mulching
Community clean-up efforts
Outdoor beautification projects
Assembling desks for the EUPISD Learning Center

Along the way, they gained valuable workplace skills like teamwork, communication, time management, and professionalism that will benefit them long after summer is done.

🌟 Students Making a Difference in Brimley 🌟

This summer, students in the EUPISD’s Summer Youth Work & Learn Program have been gaining valuable job skills while helping maintain Brimley State Park and area trails in the region.

Students took on a variety of projects - painting outhouses and a bridge, cleaning fire pits and boat launches, w**d whacking the campground and shoreline areas, trimming branches along walking trails, cleaning vault toilets, and maintaining grounds at the Algonquin trail system, Munoscong Campground and the Conely Point, Sugar Island and Pine Bowl boat launches.

Their hard work helps keep these popular recreational areas clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors alike. Along the way, students are gaining valuable job experience and developing skills that will support future employment and lifelong success.

We are proud of their dedication, growth, and positive impact on the community!

🌟 Students Give Back in Rudyard 🌟

EUPISD Summer Youth Work & Learn participants have been hard at work in Rudyard, making a positive impact in the school and community! 💪

This dedicated group painted school hallways, installed privacy fence slats at the playground, updated the StoryWalk, w**ded playground areas, stacked wood for the cabinetry class, cleaned and sanitized lockers, and sanitized the community weight room. Participants also spend time learning valuable workplace skills teamwork, time management, and communication.

The students gained valuable workplace skills, like communication, teamwork and problem solving. Their hard work, attention to detail, and commitment to service helped improve spaces used by students, families, and community members every day. Thank you to Rudyard School and Rudyard Township for partnering with us to provide these valuable learning opportunities for our youth.

This summer, students in the EUPISD’s Summer Youth Work & Learn Program have been gaining valuable job skills while helping maintain Tahquamenon Falls State Park. Students are also gaining valuable job experience that will support future employment and lifelong success.

Students took on a variety of projects - painting, cleanin fire pits, w**d whacking the campground and shoreline areas, trimming branches along walking trails, collecting litter, leaf blowing, and maintaining trails.

🌟 Students Giving Back in Kinross While Building Workplace Skills! 🌟

With the fair right around the corner, students in the EUPISD Summer Youth Work & Learn program were hard at work at the Chippewa County Fairgrounds - to create a flower garden, paint the goat barn, clean buildings and grounds, and complete a variety of maintenance projects. Another crew partnered with Kinross Township to clean up brush piles, w**d the dog park, clean the Township Hall, and help maintain Duke Lake by picking up litter. They also helped out at Camp Canaanland.

Through this paid work exprience, students developed important employment skills, such as teamwork, communication, leadership, responsibility, and problem-solving.

🌳 Students Help Beautify Sherman Park and Voyageur Island! 🌳

Students in the EUPISD’s Summer Youth Work & Learn Program have been hard at work at Sherman Park and on Voyageur Island this summer, helping maintain and improve these well-loved community spaces.

"The group was an absolute blessing this summer and a joy to work with. They took on some major projects, including painting at Sherman Park Pavilion, edging overgrown sidewalks, repainting lines and team benches at Kaines Rink, deep cleaning facilities, and completing grounds projects on Voyageur Island. Their hard work made a meaningful impact on our parks, and we look forward to welcoming them back next year!" shared a Trish Kisczenski of the Parks and Recreation department.

These hands-on projects have strengthened their problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, teamwork, and workplace safety skills.

Sherman Park is looking its best for the many families and community members who enjoy it each year. We’re proud of the contributions these students continue to make in their community!

The Outdoor Communication Board helps create more inclusive community spaces by supporting many forms of communication through play, interaction, and connection.

Using pictures, symbols, and words, the board encourages children to express wants, needs, feelings, and ideas while engaging with others in meaningful ways throughout the play environment.
This interactive feature helps create welcoming opportunities for children and families of varying communication styles and abilities to connect, engage, and play together.

Explore this space and more coming to the Outdoor Discovery & Exploration Station at the Sault Early Learning Center.

🌟 Students Give the Historic Kaines Rink a Refresh! 🌟

This summer, students in the EUPISD’s Summer Youth Work & Learn Program have been gaining hands-on experience at the historic Kaines Rink in Sault Ste. Marie.

Students learned how to properly prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, cleaning, and taping. After all that prep, they repainted the lines in the well known hockey rink.

Through projects like these, students are developing valuable workplace skills such as attention to detail, teamwork, responsibility, and perseverance while contributing to the preservation of a community landmark.

We are proud of their hard work and the positive impact they are making in Sault Ste. Marie!

🌟 Students Making a Difference in St. Ignace! 🌟

This summer, students in the EUPISD Summer Youth Work & Learn Program have been making a real impact across our community while gaining valuable workplace experience.

Working alongside the City of St. Ignace, students helped:

✅ Clean public restrooms
✅ Collect trash and litter
✅ Tidy roadways
✅ Prepare for the annual car show

At Straits State Park, they:

🌳 Raked playground areas
🌿 Pulled w**ds
🪵 Spread woodchips along walking trails
♻️ Collected litter to help keep the park beautiful for visitors

One of the highlights of the summer was the opportunity to work on Mackinac Island during the sailboat races. Students assisted with trash collection and dock cleanup, gaining valuable experience in a fast-paced and unique environment.

We are incredibly proud of their hard work, growth, and dedication to serving others. Thank you for helping make St. Ignace an even better place to live, work, and visit!

The Outdoor Story Walk combines literacy, movement, nature, and family engagement into one interactive experience for children and caregivers.

As families stroll along the path, each station features pages from a children’s book paired with playful prompts, conversation starters, and hands-on activities designed to bring stories to life outdoors.
The Story Walk encourages early literacy, language development, imagination, movement, and meaningful caregiver/child interaction while helping children connect with nature through exploration and play.

Designed for the Outdoor Discovery & Exploration Station at the Sault Early Learning Center, this interactive feature helps create welcoming opportunities for children and families to learn, discover, and explore together.
