Good afternoon, fellow rock lickers!

It’s been a very busy month for all of us. With senior research and big projects coming up, I just want to say congratulations to everyone on their hard work and dedication to our department and presentations! You guys are doing great and should be proud of the work you all have done so far. Only about 6 more weeks of hard work and we’ll be off to field camp!

Posted below are some photos of the rock painting event we did in February (yes, I know, it was a while ago but it’s nice to look back!). Maybe we’ll do something like this again if you guys are interested?? We only have a limited amount of club meetings left in the semester so if you wanna do something, let us know ASAP!

Also, new officer elections are happening in April so keep in mind who you would want to nominate for a position or if you think you would be a good fit! Being a club officer is great for resumés, grad school applications and gives you a leg up with interpersonal relationships and learning how to work with others so keep that in mind! (;

The design for the t shirt contest is the “Item Design” (thanks everyone for liking my last design submission!! I’ll miss it for sure) and we will be putting up a sign up sheet soon as well so please pay attention to our emails to know when that will be. Prices will be announced soon as well, so stay tuned. The t shirts will probably be in around the end of April. The colors for the shirts are going to be navy blue with light green design (thanks Laura, it looks awesome!) and they’ll be perfect for field camp this summer!

Anyway, thanks for reading and have a good rest of your Friday - let’s make these last few weeks count, Lakers!! 💛💙⚒

*EDIT: T shirts will be priced at $15.00 per shirt!

Good morning rock lickers!!

We would like to thank everyone for voting - our new Vice President is the great Nathan Woodruff!! We look forward to having him as part of our team and we hope y’all accept him with open arms!

On a side note, we are currently collecting merch for the embroidery fundraiser - there is a box in the back of 339 for drop off. Please make sure you write your name on your belongings and make sure they’re CLEAN!

We are also doing a “paint a rock” activity on Friday at 1:00 in 339. Paint and brushes will be supplied by my lovely mother (so please be gentle with the brushes and clean them because she uses them for her art classes at St. Mary’s!!). So bring in a rock that you have (because we all know we have lots in our collections) but we will have some rocks to paint if you are lacking or don’t want to paint your samples 😉

Also start thinking about making designs for our t shirt contest, I know I already have a couple ideas but I wanna see what you guys got, too!!

Have a good rest of your week and we will see you on Friday! 💙💛⛏

Good afternoon, rock hounds!

Here’s some words from our fearless leader, Laura Ross!

“Dues are due next week! $5 for the Spring semester! Embroidery dropoff will begin on Feb. 8th. The box will be at the back of CRW 339. The drop off will end on Feb 16th. Please attach a note with your name on the item. $10 per item! Pay when you pick it up.

Hopefully, we can get the Square app by the end of February. But it is still TBA.

Our vice president graduated this fall, so the vice president position is open. On Monday, Feb 8th, NEXT WEEK, we will be voting. The voting process is that, at the start of the meeting, club members themselves or other club members can nominate a person for the position. Once the nominations are complete, each person will then accept or decline the nomination. You are free to accept or decline the position. The people who accepted the nomination will then give a brief speech about why they should be elected to that position, if they want too. If you can not make the Feb 8th meeting, you can also nominate yourself or others through email before that Monday. Normally we would then have everyone write down their vote on a slip paper, and then the officers would count it. This year, we are going to do a Google form. So, I will make one and then send it out through email. The poll will remain open until 9 pm on Feb 8th, and voting is anonymous. After the poll is closed, I will send out an email naming our new Vice President. The new vice president will only be in that position until the new officers are voted in at the end of the year. But you can run for any position at the end of the year, even if you are voted in as the interim vice president. Currently, the nominations are Eli Yauk, Jill Hillstrom, and Nate Woodruff.

We will be having a "Paint Your Own Rock" event Feb. 12th. More details to follow!

Have a great week everyone!!”

Also, side note for any mug lovers - I just picked this baby up from goodwill. Can anyone else see why I love it?? I’ll give you a hint - I like to call it my “shades of buff” mug.

Aaaaaanyway, have a good third week of classes, everybody!! 💙💛⛏

Good afternoon, fellow geologists!

Today was our first club meeting of the spring semester! We’re looking forward to a productive and adventurous semester (while following the guidelines for safety during this time).

Here are some things you might’ve missed:
- club dues are due on the 8th ($5)
- we still have a ton of geology club stickers available ($3/sticker) and are currently planning on trying to make more in the following months (if y’all are interest, of course!)
- we are still trying to get Square so that people can pay dues, buy merch, etc. with a card: but it might still be a while before that’ll come into effect
- we are definitely doing embroideries AND t shirts this semester but we are starting with embroideries so start gathering some items you would like to get embroidered (a due date for these is not chosen yet but keep that in mind for future meetings)
- we will be holding a flash sale as well for past merch items (so keep that on your radar)
- we need some students to help Kelso sell some lab manuals tomorrow so please email us or Kelso to figure out who can help (the more the merrier!!)
- and finally, we are going to be doing a vote on Feb. 8th for a new replacement Vice President since our lovely Ms. Kaila has officially graduated (and we are so proud of her!) so please have an idea of who you would like to nominate for that position or think about if you would be a good fit for it!

Anyway, we’re planning on trying to do some little club adventures here in the next couple weeks so if any of you have any ideas for what you would like to do for club, please let us know so we can try and get some much needed fresh air!!

We hope that your first week went well and are looking forward to seeing the rest of this semester through! Remember, it’s always a great day at Lake State, but it’s even better if you’re a geologist! 😉💙💛

Howdy fellow geologists!

This weekend was our annual Rake Paul’s Yard fundraiser! We were cold and hot, hungry and stuffed but most importantly we got it done!

Thank you everyone for coming out and participating in our event! Also big thank you to the Kelso’s for the wonderful hospitality and, more over, the awesome cookies and Amy’s special chili!

We hope everyone is safe and sound as this semester comes to a close. We only have 4 more weeks until this semester is over so keep your chins up and get that nose to the grindstone!

Have a stellar rest of your day and remember it’s not just a great day at Lake State but a better day for geology! 💙💛

Good afternoon fellow geologists and happy mid-terms!

As September winds down and October takes its place, I just wanted to remind you guys all the cool stuff you guys have gotten to do these past couple weeks and to get y’all excited for what’s next to come - not just club wise but academically! With the colors of autumn coming in full swing, we’re hoping to get a couple more hiking trips in and lots of more activities to follow!

Here’s some candid photos of our members doing some cool geology stuff (;

Good luck with your mid-terms, stay strong and study hard! The end of the term is coming quick so let’s make the best of it!

Also, don’t forget to vote on the colors for the hoodie design! Check your email for details!

Have a great day at Lake State! 💙💛

09/04/2020

Goodmorning, fellow Rock Knockers!!

Happy end of week 4 of the semester! We hope everyone is staying safe out there!

Just as a reminder, we are doing our Yooperlite trip today and we are meeting in the library parking lot at 6:20 pm! We are car pooling down so if you can drive, please let us know so we can make sure everyone who wants to come has a ride.

Remember - we are going to be on the beach so please bring warm clothes (rain coat, sweater, jacket, maybe even mittens) and proper shoes. All equipment is going to be provided by the club so please be courteous and respectful of the equipment.

We hope to see you all there! Have a great day! 💙💛

08/24/2020

Hello, again, everyone!

Thank you all for coming to our first meeting! Just for a reminder, we talked about club dues ($5 per semester), geology logo stickers (which we are definitely going to be looking into), apparel (we’re going to be doing hoodies and embroidery, plus we are looking into new hats!), and potential upcoming events!

As some of you have heard, I made a short video for today’s first meeting. Unfortunately, I couldn’t show this video during the club meeting due to technical difficulties but I wanted to post this here so everyone can get a little taste of what we do here in the Geology Department (this is not strictly club related but a lot of our members are also geology majors!).

This was a video log of the Tectonics GEOL468 class of 2020 Appalachians trip. I spent quite a bit of time editing this for you guys so I really hope y’all enjoy it as much as I did!😁

We hope to see you at our next club meeting! Have a great day at Lake State! 💙💛
