On Friday, November 19, the Putnam Problem Solving group showed that A googolplex + a googol + 99 is not a prime number. The team made considerable progress toward showing that for all whole numbers n, 10^(10^(10^n))) + 10^(10^n) + 10^n - 1 is not prime (problem A4 from 2010).

On Friday, November 12, the Lake State Mathematics Seminar will meet in CAS 207 at 4:00 to hear a talk by Dr. George Voutsadakis on the problem of P = NP? The P = NP? problem is one of the seven millennium problems, announced by the Clay Mathematics Institute in 2000 as seven of the most important problems in mathematics.
