Had business at the high school yesterday, but was able to make time to stop by the STORM JV volleyball game in the gym.

Was exiting to watch! Our volleyball team has a very devoted fanbase!!

This is why I strongly fought against distance learning and mask mandates during COVID. Not surprisingly, the lost classroom time is being reflected in the data.

In addition, district staff have told the board they are seeing behaviors from students that typically occur in grades two younger.

Why has MDE not addressed this more strongly?

The "Portrait of a Graduate" was a concept adopted before my election to the ISD 47 Board of Education last year. It was created by soliciting feedback from the community to answer the question, "What qualities do we want a Sauk Rapids-Rice graduate to have?"

It is an idea I strongly support, as its focus does it stop at just putting a diploma in a student's hand. It helps build graduates into independent thinking and productive future workers.

Attached below are the meeting minutes from the 4/24 School Board meeting.

The significant action items are the creation of new positions to build the expanded "wrap-around care" option for early childhood in the district. Our goal is to create a more parent-friendly schedule that allows better opportunities for working parents to get their children into early childhood programs.

Participation in early childhood programs has shown to be a significant factor in school readiness for our youngest learners.

Removing the schedule barrier will open opportunities for families whose schedules had previously prohibited them from attending to join our STORM community early.
