Woodstock Day School became a part of the community over 40 years ago, when it began as a small Preschool in the village of Woodstock. From these humble beginnings, our community has steadily nurtured and expanded the school to fill an important gap in the Hudson Valley, where options for a top tier end-to-end (Nursery - 12th Grade) progressive education have been limited, and changes in the regio

In the week following graduation, WDS faculty spend a "clean up week" taking stock - both literally and conceptually - of the full year of teaching behind us.

Classrooms are tidied, materials sorted, shelves reset, projects packed away, and spaces prepared for summer. At the same time, teachers reflect on the work, growth, and joyful moments of this past year, while beginning to look towards the incoming school year and the students who will soon fill these rooms again.

A special thank you to our PA and Board for providing lunches and nourishment all throughout last week! You helped fuel the process and gave our faculty the time and support to close out the year intentionally.

This day asks us to remember that freedom is not only a moment in history, but an ongoing responsibility: something we study, protect, expand, and practice in community.

As a school, we believe that honest learning matters. We believe that history should be taught with clarity and care. And we believe that young people deserve an education that helps them recognize injustice and imagine something better.

On Wednesday, we gathered as colleagues to celebrate these milestones, with faculty and staff sharing stories, reflections, and words of gratitude for the many ways these educators have shaped WDS over time.

5 Years: Chris, Corey, Gabriela, Will, Rigaz, and Glenn
10 Years: Callie
15 Years: Xhosa and JD

To stay in a school community for this long is to help shape its culture in ways both visible and quiet: in traditions passed on and in the steady care students remember long after they graduate. We are deeply grateful for the commitment, wisdom, humor, creativity, and heart these educators bring to WDS year after year. Please join us in celebrating these wonderful colleagues and the lasting impact they have made on our school!

Congratulations to the Woodstock Day School Class of 2026!

Saturday’s graduation ceremony was a moving celebration of this remarkable group of seniors: their creativity, courage, humor, care for one another, and the many ways they have shaped our school community. This has always been an especially singular class: distinct voices, strong perspectives, and students who have each found their own path through WDS in ways that feel deeply and unmistakably their own.

We were grateful to hear beautiful reflections from Bob, Andrew ’16, Ashley, Adrian, and members of the graduating class themselves, whose words reminded us how unique and thoughtful they are.

To our graduates: we are proud of you, we will miss you, and we cannot wait to see what comes next. Congratulations, Class of 2026!

"Yesterday's Moving Up Ceremony offered a clear reminder of what makes a Nursery through 12th grade school so meaningful. From our youngest students carrying carnations nearly as tall as they are, to our graduating seniors walking into the tent under those flowers raised up high, this special WDS ritual gives us a chance to see the full arc of a WDS education.

From my vantage point at the front, I saw the Nursery and Preschool students watching with rapt attention throughout the entire program; I saw 4th and 5th graders offering high-fives to younger students as they made their way to the stage; and we all heard the enthusiastic cheers with which our classes and faculty members were greeted.

As we say good-bye to school year 25-26, I am sending out a heartfelt congratulations to all of our students moving up, a huge thank you to the families and friends who joined us today, and a shoutout to the faculty and staff who help make the ceremony such a beautiful tradition. Have a wonderful weekend - indeed, school's out for summer!" - Ashley Hughes, Head of School

Happy Pride Month from all of us at Woodstock Day School! 🏳️‍🌈

At WDS, we believe that every student deserves to be known, supported, and celebrated for who they are. Pride is a reminder of the joy, courage, creativity, and community that grow when people are free to express themselves fully. We celebrate and stand with our LGBTQ+ students, staff, families, alumni, and neighbors!

WDS will be marching in the Woodstock Pride Parade on June 14th. Send us a DM if you'd like to join us - all families, friends and alumni welcome!

2nd/3rd grade families joined us for a Celebration of Learning, where students shared presentation materials they created to represent a culture or nation they had studied. The event also included student-prepared food connected to their research, giving families a chance to experience each project through both story and taste!
