Dear Satsuma City Schools Families and Staff,

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the weather forecast and the potential for severe weather in our area, Satsuma City Schools will be closed on Friday, October 9, 2026.

Our first responsibility is to provide a safe environment for our students and employees, and after reviewing the latest information, we believe closing for the day is the appropriate decision.

There will be no extracurricular activities on Friday, and the cross-country event scheduled for Saturday has also been canceled.

We also want to remind families that Monday, October 12, and Tuesday, October 13, are scheduled fall break days. Students will return to school on Wednesday, October 14.

We know changes to the school schedule can require families to make adjustments, and we appreciate your understanding as we make decisions based on the safety of our school community.

Please stay weather-aware and watch our official Satsuma City Schools communication channels for any additional updates.

Thank you for your continued support of Satsuma City Schools.

Sincerely,

Dana Price
Superintendent
Satsuma City Schools

A few of Mrs. Hoeft’s 10th Grade Dual Enrollment U.S. History students, Layla Parker, Reese Phillips, Taylor Bolton, and Alleigh Colton, had the opportunity to visit Mobile City Hall and interview Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis as part of their National History Day research.

The students are researching Mobile’s mystic societies and Mardi Gras traditions through this year’s National History Day theme, Innovation: Impact, Influence, Change.

This experience gave students the opportunity to move beyond the classroom and engage directly with local history, civic leadership, and the community they are studying. It also allowed them to work as historians in the field by conducting interviews, asking follow-up questions, identifying future research leads, and gathering primary-source evidence to strengthen and support their thesis.

Satsuma High School would like to extend a sincere thank you to Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis and his office for welcoming our students, taking the time to meet with them, and supporting their research. We are grateful for the opportunity for our students to learn from community leaders while developing authentic research and historical thinking skills.

We are proud of Layla, Reese, Taylor, and Alleigh! We look forward to seeing how all of the participating projects continue to develop in preparation for Gator History Day and National History Day competition.

Go Gators! 🐊📚🏛️

🐊 Happy National Coaches Day!

Today, we proudly celebrate the incredible coaches who pour their time, energy, knowledge, and heart into our student-athletes every single day.

At Satsuma High School, our coaches do so much more than teach the game. They build confidence, develop character, encourage perseverance, demand excellence, and teach lessons that extend far beyond the field, court, pool, track, or course.

Through the early mornings, late nights, practices, game days, victories, and challenges, they continue to show up for our Gators and invest in their success.

To ALL of our SHS coaches—thank you for leading, mentoring, encouraging, and believing in our student-athletes. Your impact reaches far beyond the scoreboard, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.

🐊 Happy National Coaches Day from Gator Nation! 🐊
