What if you were an engineer trying to design a boat to deliver supplies to people after a flood? That was the challenge our 5th graders tackled in Science today!

Students were given a limited amount of foil, wax paper, tape, and straws and had to design and build a boat that could float while holding the weight of the coins provided.

But there was a catchā€¦ they had constraints! Engineers donā€™t have unlimited materials, so students had to carefully plan, make decisions, and use their resources wisely.

Students followed the Engineering Design Process to:
šŸ”¹ Identify the problem
šŸ”¹ Imagine possible solutions
šŸ”¹ Plan their design
šŸ”¹ Create their boat
šŸ”¹ Test their design
šŸ”¹ Improve their design

There were creative designs, unexpected results, teamwork, and plenty of problem-solving along the way! Students learned that engineers donā€™t give up when a design doesnā€™t work - they learn from the results, make changes, and try again! šŸ’”šŸ› ļø

Science isnā€™t just something we learnā€¦ itā€™s something we DO! šŸŒŽšŸ”¬
