🥨 Chex Mix Experiment Day! 🥨

A big thank you to all of the parents who graciously contributed items for today’s experiment! Your donations helped make this hands-on learning experience possible! 🤍

Over the last few days, we’ve been learning about mixtures and solutions, including what makes a mixture a mixture. A mixture is made up of two or more substances that are combined but can be physically separated or easily taken apart.

So, what better way to put our learning into practice than by making our very own Chex Mix?!

Our fifth graders got to create their own snack mixtures while putting their science knowledge to work. And the best part? They got to take their creations home to enjoy! 🥨🍿

They even received a list of the ingredients so they can recreate their favorite mixture at home and bring it to their next family or friends gathering!

Science is always better when you can learn it, mix it, and eat it! 🧪🥨

Do you know the pros and cons of using polyurethane or polystyrene to make a surfboard? These fifth graders do! 🌊🏄‍♀️🏄‍♂️

Over the past couple of class periods, our students have been learning about properties of matter and chemical changes while researching different types of foam used to make surfboards. Then, they put their creativity to work by designing their own surfboard company and creating a custom surfboard!

Using what they learned about the properties of their chosen foam, students also created an advertisement for their company - including a catchy surf slogan! 🤙🌴

Science, research, creativity, and a little bit of friendly competition all in one project! 🌊🔬🏄
