Our fourth, fifth, and sixth graders became CSI: Crime Scene Investigators in the library! 🔎📚

Our classroom was completely transformed into a crime scene as students worked to solve the mystery of the damaged library books. There were plenty of curious students passing by, wondering what all the excitement was about!

Each investigator group received a case file containing a witness statement, pencil, magnifying glass, and evidence sheet. Students visited each case, searched for clues, used context clues, made inferences, and gathered evidence to determine what happened to each damaged book. Learning was definitely a mystery worth solving! 🕵️‍♀️📖🚨

These students are super smart! It’s so much fun watching our students have so much fun learning new things. They are building confidence, strengthening communication skills, and reinforcing what they have learned. Here, one of our students is leading her classmates through the Super3 hand movements, Plan, Do, and Review.
The Super3 research model gives students a simple, memorable process to follow when researching topics. We love watching our students step up, share their knowledge, and become leaders in their own learning!

Our kindergarten and first-grade superheroes had a SUPER time in the library! 🦸‍♀️📚🦸‍♂️ We learned about the Super3, Plan, Do, and Review, and practiced our best superhero poses! Students also explored the parts of a book, completed a labeling and coloring worksheet, and posed for pictures with Dewey the Library Dragon. 🐉 Some of our friends weren’t quite sure about getting that close to a real dragon, but everyone had a fun-filled day of learning and adventure!

2nd and 3rd graders had a SUPER week in the library! We explored real life superheroes and learned about the Super3 Research Model, Plan, Do, and Review. We read The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein as we learned about the Twin Towers and reflected on Patriot Day. We also reviewed the parts of a book, practiced using the Five-Finger Rule to choose the perfect book, and discussed important September events, including Patriot Day and International Dot Day.

We ended our library classes with exciting makerspace centers! Students experienced augmented reality using QuiverVision, painted and mixed colors to discover new shades, created colorful bookmarks, and used markers to design their own masterpieces. It was a week filled with reading, researching, creating, and fun!

Just wanted to let all of our wonderful parents, grandparents, families, and friends of our library know that we are so grateful for you!!! You guys rocked with spoiling our students with the books and Makerspace supplies that they’ve requested!!! Many packages that came in did not have a note to let me know who the books and supplies are from, but I wanted to let each and everyone of you know that I appreciate you being our library fairies and friends. The books have all been added to our library system and are waiting in their carts to be barcoded and labeled. They will all be available for check out for our students very soon.

****I think someone’s orders of personal items for their house got mixed up with our books and supplies packages. The last picture of this post has the items that weren’t on the Amazon wishlist. If they belong to you, I’d love to get them back to you. Please private message me and we can schedule a pickup at the school.

Thank you all again so very much for adding more books to our libraries for our students!!!

Our Kindergarten and 1st grade students have been busy learning in the library!

We practiced the Super3, Plan, Do, Review, using fun hand motions to help us remember each step.

Students also explored the parts of a book and learned how to tell the difference between author and illustrator.

Of course, no library visit would be complete without a fun photoshoot with Dewey the Library Dragon! 🦎📸

Our little readers are becoming library experts one book at a time!

Our first graders have been busy building their library skills! This week, we focused on learning the different parts of a book. After reading Ants in Your Pants, students colored and completed a worksheet where they identified and labeled each book part. They did an amazing job putting their new knowledge into practice!

We also briefly discussed International Dot Day and enjoyed reading The Dot. Students learned that creativity often begins with simply having the courage to try!

Finally, we were introduced to the Super3 research process: Plan, Do, and Review. We even practiced fun hand movements to help us remember each step!

Of course, we had to have a photoshoot with Dewey, our Library Dragon!!

Our first graders are learning that every great reader, researcher, and creator starts with the basics and they are off to a fantastic start!

September is packed with learning, creativity, and fun in the library!

Our students explored several important September observances, including Labor Day, Patriot Day, Constitution Day, International Dot Day, and Johnny Appleseed’s birthday. We also recognized that September is Library Card Sign-Up Month and the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month!

Students learned the Super3 research model Plan, Do, and Review and even created fun hand movements to help them remember each step! We also reviewed the parts of a book and practiced choosing a “just-right” book using the 5 Finger Rule.

To celebrate International Dot Day, students participated in hands on Dot Day centers where they created, collaborated, problem solved, and discovered how one small dot can inspire BIG ideas!

It is going to be a wonderful month of reading, researching, creating, and learning together!
