Art offers children a way to use their imaginations and try new ideas. Giving them a chance to experiment and explore can be a powerful learning experience for them. Asking open-ended questions like « What could you try next? » helps build on these learning experiences rather than directing or correcting them. It’s amazing to see what they come up with on their own!

Everyday is a good day for superhero costumes
At SPNS, we believe that the skills and knowledge gained in play serve as the fundamental building blocks for a child’s future. In the classroom, children are encouraged to choose from an array of developmentally-appropriate activities: art, science, cooking, music, imaginative play, and other hands-on activities. In our secure outdoor play area, children develop both their fine and gross motor skills through climbing, playing on the play structure, riding tricycles on the bike path, and engaging in any of the rotating outdoor small group activities.
In these early years, children also learn to play with their peers, transitioning from individual parallel play to more interactive cooperative play. In helping children develop their social skills, teachers and parents foster budding friendships by modeling respectful communication, conflict resolution and self-mastery skills.
We believe families grow stronger when parents have a supportive community. We believe children are natural learners. We believe in approaches that embrace creative play where learning to ride a bike is as important as learning the ABC’s.
