Happy Saraswati Puja to all on this auspicious Panchami tithi!
As a child, I remember collecting small Parijata flowers early morning to offer for Saraswati puja. I was thinking I should get this plant for my garden today and was searching for it when I came across some interesting notes.

"Parijat is also widely known as Harsingar or the ornament of the Gods in India. Thus, it's the only one that can be offered to Gods after picking it up from the ground. The flower is said to help one remember one's past lives and incarnations."

"Parijat, the flower said to have descended from heaven itself. Legend says it bloomed from the ashes of a heartbroken princess, and now graces winter nights with its divine fragrance. 🌙 It blooms in the dark, falls before sunrise symbolizing purity, devotion, and detachment."

Here's a nice story related to this beautiful night-flowering plant that we used to offer for Saraswati Puja day as well.

What a remarkable journey it has been, encompassing 25 student arangetrams! This year, we also undertake a mission to witness glimpses from various phases of this artistic evolution over the years!
Here is a short glimpse from Sumana's brilliant Arangetram in August 2024. I thoroughly relished rendering this intricate jati for Sumana - seeing her evolve from a 6 year old young child to a teenage sophomore Arangetram presenter has been so soul-satisfying indeed!
Kudos to all our accompanying artistes with melodious Ranjani Ravindrabharathy on vocals, brilliant Santhosh Ravindrabharathy on mrudangam, wonderful Aravind on the violin and mellifluous Tejasvi Chakravarthy on the flute.

What a brilliant and blissful close to our Arangetram session of 2025! We had the pleasure of presenting our dear Lasya for her Arangetram with Sarvaguna School of Bharatanatyam last Saturday!

We celebrated an important milestone after years of dedication, hard work, and artistic evolution.
Lasya who just completed her 10th grade in high school and has been learning with me for more than 8 years now, presented a beautiful margam presentation with various beautiful and intricate pieces. We are also very happy to share a special milestone for our school as we completed 25 student arangetrams this summer with God's Grace!

A short clip from her Arangetram - so proud of her strong ending to a 30 min Nattukurunji ragam varnam!

Lasya's grandpa unfortunately just passed away few months ago and the whole family has been through so much to make this happen. Just so happy for them to be able to come together to celebrate a strong, expressive, heartfelt performance by her.

Without doubt, we had an amazing orchestra team with the melodious and soulful Ranjani Ranjani Ravindrabharathy, vibrant Ravindra Bharathy Sridharan Anna on the mrudangam, wonderful Vikram Regukumar on the violin, brilliant Hrishikesh Chary on the veena and the experienced Shri Pasumarthi Venkararamana on the flute! It was a joy to have my daughter Laranya Mohan assist me with the Nattuvangam!

A big thank you to our whole support team with lighting design by Naveen Nathan, makeup by Ramya Sridharan , photography by Madhu Pai Photography and videography by Raju ( Kumar Yajamanam ) and our whole support crew of SarvaGuna extended family!

Fabulous capture of a precious moment from Jyosshna's Arangetram by Madhu Pai Photography !

This moment captures one of the Mahabharata's most pivotal scenes - the vastraharan of Draupadi, where multiple characters come alive to tell this sacred story.

In the court of Hastinapura, when dharma was forgotten and power misused, the performance transitions between the eternal struggle of righteousness and tyranny.

As Dushyasana pulls at Draupadi's robe, expecting her humiliation, he becomes bewildered at the endless flow of divine cloth that Krishna provides.

Each tug reveals not shame, but the infinite protection that comes to those who surrender to the divine.

The story explores Draupadi's dignified suffering, Dushyasana's growing confusion, and the invisible yet omnipresent Krishna.

Stories don't just get performed - they become eternal.

We are also presenting a piece composed by Shankracharya, the Gauri Dashakam when he visited the Kashmir Valley and which I enjoyed choreographing for my Kashmiri student - the lyrics are so deep and insightful - he was a visionary seer who could see that the Valley at some point would be torn amidst divisive forces and the lyrics emphasize various insights at a soul level - wisdom that could help us transcend deep cycles of baggage and bo***ge. It is sung as a popular Kashmiri folk song and we are bringing in special santoor-like sounds of Kashmir valley with someone accompanying on a keyboard for that piece.

Chandrika Pai on the vocals, Santhosh Ravindrabharathy on mrudangam, Krishna Parthasarathy on the violin, Srivathsa Pasumarthi on the flute and Hrishikesh Chary on the veena and Guru Mohana Narayan on the Nattuvangam.

Happy to share that SarvaGuna School of Bhararanatyam will be completing 25 student Arangetrams this summer! On Aug 24th 2025, we are presenting Jyosshna's Arangetram where she will be presenting a complete maargam of items with some beautiful gems along with a vibrant team providing live music. Please mark your calendars and stay tuned for more details!

With my guidance Jyosshna has been working very hard - though she has not trained with me for as long as many of my other students who have been with me for 8 to 10 years while completing their arangetrams, in a short span of 3 years she has covered tremendous amount of ground and pays attention to every detailed correction and follows through with practice and commitment. It is wonderful to see all these qualities of diligence, perseverance, persistence, creativity, coordination, fluidity and more blossom in these Arangetram track students as values and assets that will have a life-long impact on their journeys ahead!

Please join me in wishing her well in her endeavour ahead!
