An L&D team usually joins a project after the business priorities are already set.
By then, the requests usually revolve around building courses, launching a program, and reporting the completion rates. But real business value starts earlier, when goals, metrics, and priorities are still being defined.

On Thursday, August 27, iSpring will host the next with David Kelly, SVP of Strategy & Transformation at Bluewater Learning and former CEO of The Learning Guild.

The session will explore how L&D can engage at the beginning of the business cycle and become part of the planning process.

You’ll learn how to:

🔹 Connect learning initiatives to business priorities
🔹 Define success metrics before training begins
🔹 Help instructional designers understand the business context behind a request
🔹 Show learning’s impact through outcomes that matter beyond completion rates
🔹 Position L&D as a strategic partner throughout the year

IDs, Learning Consultants, and L&D leaders who want more influence over what gets built — this event is for you.

A customer pushes back? A manager has to deliver difficult feedback? A frontline employee needs to make a call without a supervisor on hand?

You can explain the “right” response in a slide deck… Or you can let learners practice the decision, see what happens next, and try a different path. 👀

That’s the idea behind scenario-based learning: training built around choices and consequences rather than passive content.

iSpring Suite AI is the perfect tool for building this kind of practice, even if you’ve never worked with branching scenarios before. Map out paths visually, create role-play simulations, use AI to shape and refine the content, and add ready-made characters, locations, and other assets to bring the scenario to life.

You can also work with SMEs during review, publish the course to any LMS, and track how learners move through each decision point.

The result is training that feels much closer to the actual job and gives people room to make mistakes before they affect job performance.

Now that AI is built into almost every course creation tool, authentic learning still depends on the course designer. As an expert, you’re responsible for choosing the right context, building credible situations, and creating activities that help people think critically.
Our friends at iSpring are hosting a live webinar with Frank Bergdoll, AI Project Lead at SAIT, author of Learning with AI, and EdTech creator. Frank will explore how AI can support course development without replacing the judgment and responsibility behind good instructional design.

📆 When: Tuesday, August 18, at 11:00 AM EDT

During the webinar, you’ll learn how to:
⚡ Identify where AI genuinely strengthens the course design process
⚡ Create learning experiences rooted in realistic tasks and decisions
⚡ Use AI without losing accuracy, context, or the human perspective
⚡ Build effective course content in iSpring Suite

For IDs, L&D professionals, and course developers endeavoring to use AI thoughtfully, this is a conversation worth joining.

2026 has brought some real shifts to learning experience design — and if you work in L&D, these are worth paying attention to.

From AI as a genuine creative partner to microlearning that fits inside the flow of work, the full breakdown is on the IDC blog. Link in the post!

There's a question circulating in L&D circles right now that a lot of people are afraid to ask out loud.

Is instructional design a dying field?

We wrote the honest answer, not a pep talk, not panic. Just a clear-eyed look at what AI is actually replacing in ID work, what it cannot touch, and the five skills that are becoming more valuable right now, not less.

The short version: the field is not dying. But the version of it that existed five years ago is changing fast. The designers who come out ahead will be the ones who saw it coming and moved accordingly.

Worth a read if you're thinking about your career trajectory in 2026.

The ADDIE Model is one of the most well-known frameworks in instructional design—and for good reason.

But ADDIE isn’t just a five-step process to follow from beginning to end.

It’s a mindset for creating better learning experiences.

Analyze — Understand the real problem, your learners, and the environment.

Design — Define clear objectives and plan the learning experience.

Develop — Create meaningful content, activities, assessments, and resources.

Implement — Deliver the learning experience and support your audience.

Evaluate — Measure results, gather feedback, and continuously improve.

The best instructional designers don’t treat these phases as rigid or linear. They move between them, iterate, test, learn, and adapt.

The goal isn’t to “complete” ADDIE.

The goal is to use it to create learning that actually makes a difference.

What’s your favorite ADDIE phase—or the one you think instructional designers tend to overlook?

Most AI course drafts fail for one simple reason: AI has no instructional context.

And without context, you get exactly what we’ve all seen: long paragraphs, vague explanations, no structure, no flow, and a lot of rewriting. 🫠

iSpring compiled a set of instructional-design-ready prompts that help AI produce content you can actually use in real course development! 🤩

In this guide, you’ll find prompts for:

⚡ structuring a course outline
⚡ generating measurable learning objectives
⚡ creating scenarios and case studies
⚡ drafting quizzes and assessments
⚡ simplifying overly-technical or messy AI outputs
