Everyone has AI now.

Which creates a rather interesting problem.

If everyone has access to the same intelligence, the same tools, and the ability to create almost anything…

What makes you special?

I think this is where things get really exciting.

AI is making it easier to do things that once took years to learn, a team of people, or a lot of money.

A 22-year-old can build something that would have required an entire company ten years ago.

A small business can suddenly have capabilities that used to belong to enormous corporations.

But here’s the funny thing.

When everyone can make something impressive, being impressive isn’t enough anymore.

Your taste matters.

Your curiosity.

The strange connections you make that nobody else sees.

The risks you’re willing to take.

Your ability to understand another human being.

And perhaps most importantly, how you make people feel.

AI can help a thousand people build a beautiful website.

It can’t decide what makes your business worth caring about.

That’s still your job.

I think we’re entering an extraordinary era where technology levels the playing field, but our individuality becomes the greatest competitive advantage.

The more we can all do the same things, the more valuable it becomes to be unmistakably yourself.

I tell bright young people to start a business.

Actually, start 10.

When you’re young, the downside is relatively small and the experience can put you years ahead of everyone else.

Jamil is a good example of why.

Boardy introduced us this week. He’s 22, just graduated with a cybersecurity degree, and has already been building things online for years.

Middle school: a comic page that reached millions of views.

High school: gym content on TikTok.

Then social media and advertising for several companies.

Now he’s building Privatus, helping licensed professionals with their online reputation and personal-data exposure.

I really enjoyed our conversation.

I told him something I think a lot of young people underestimate:

You already know things that established businesses desperately need.

Jamil understands social media, content and online reputation better than many business owners twice or three times his age.

That gap is a business.

You don’t need to invent the next Facebook.

Take something that feels completely normal to you and find someone for whom it’s difficult, expensive or confusing.

Help them.

Charge for it.

Learn.

Then do it again.

Jamil is already doing exactly that.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. I’ve spent some wonderful time with great people and I’m feeling very blessed — and very aligned with my purpose.

As always, AI comes up in conversation.

My outlook is very positive, although I understand the concerns. I don’t think we’re particularly close to the Terminator scenario 😅 but I do see real questions around wealth concentration, job losses and environmental impact.

I can’t predict the future.

But I know where I want to focus my attention.

Small and mid-sized businesses and the people who run them.

I believe they’re the heart of our communities.

Almost every small business starts because someone believes they have something to offer their community that wasn’t there before.

They take enormous risks. Many don’t make it. And almost every business owner I know has gone through periods of real personal struggle while still putting on a smile for their clients the next morning.

I think this is somewhere AI can genuinely move the needle for humanity.

Give these community innovators more support.

More energy.

Better businesses.

Better services and outcomes for their clients.

More time to think.

More time to recharge their batteries.

More time to actually enjoy the thing they worked so hard to build.

If we can help thousands of small businesses thrive, I think the impact ripples outward — into families, employees, customers and entire communities.

That’s what I’m working on.

Dream big. Think in small increments of progress.

Well, this is rather lovely.

We’ve spent the last year obsessing over a fairly simple question:

How do we make AI genuinely useful for small businesses?

Not another piece of software to learn.

Not another dashboard.

Not “AI transformation.”

Technology that quietly understands the business, remembers what matters, helps find and nurture customers, improves service — and gives the humans more time to do the things humans are actually good at.

We’re still early. We’re still experimenting. And my agents now have agents of their own to experiment with. 😂

But this feels like a lovely little milestone along the way.

My agents now have their own agents. 😜

This feels like either the beginning of something brilliant or the point where I become completely unnecessary.

This month I’m running an experiment:

How much of my business can my AI agents actually handle without me?

Sales. Follow-up. Customer experience. Reputation. Outreach. The boring bits. The bits I forget. And increasingly, the bits they’re better at remembering than I am.

The goal isn’t to replace people.

It’s to make the technology disappear — and give small business owners back time, energy and headspace, while building a more predictable engine for revenue.

Second rule of AI: don’t guess on the software that will decide the next 20 years.

Starting a law firm is exciting.

Then someone asks:

CRM?

Intake?

Billing?

Calendar?

Email?

AI?

And suddenly you’re a lawyer pretending to be a CTO. 😂

The problem isn’t choosing the wrong software today.

It’s spending the next 20 years layering more software on top of it.

We’re testing a different approach with newly formed law firms:

Get the technology right at the beginning. Connect everything. Then make it disappear.

So you can get back to being a lawyer.

Not the unpaid IT department. 🥃

First rule of AI:

Good AI frees you to be more human.

I had a great conversation this week with Gib Olander after Boardy introduced us.

We were talking about lawyers starting their own firms, and something kept bothering me.

The week you open your firm, you make dozens of technology decisions.

Email. Website. Intake. Calendar. Billing. CRM. Follow-ups.

You think you’re building infrastructure.

But you might actually be designing how you spend the next 20 years of your life.

Get it wrong and suddenly you’re a lawyer who spends Tuesday updating software, Thursday chasing follow-ups and Sunday night clearing an inbox.

We have a joke on our team:

If you’re too busy to get to the gym or see your family, you’re not using AI correctly.

It gets a laugh. 😂

But I mean it.

AI should do the stuff you never became a lawyer to do.

Remember the follow-up.

Find the document.

Update the system.

Answer the question you’ve answered 100 times.

Then disappear.

What’s left should be more of you.

More time to listen.

More time to think.

More time with clients.

More time with your family.

Maybe even dinner before 9pm.

That’s increasingly how I judge technology.

Not “What can it do?”

“What does it give back?”

First rule of AI:
