October 20-26 is National Teen Driver Safety Week!

Here are some ways to get involved with NTDSW:

-Talk to your teen: Discuss the dangers that teen drivers face and the importance of following the rules of the road.

-Set an example: Demonstrate safe driving practices by following traffic laws and not breaking the speed limit, running red lights, or texting while driving.

-Share safety messages: Spread the word about teen driver safety with others.

-Learn about the history of NTDSW: Discover the history of the event and how it has grown over time.

As always, every day is the right day to practice safe driving, but a little awareness goes a long way!

Mark Paxton serves our Pasco, Pinellas, and surrounding counties. Featured in Trinity Living magazine for the month of June!
Here is a little bit about Mark:
Skills as a FL certified Driving Instructor/Examiner for 3 years. Previously I have worked as an EMT and in Law Enforcement for 15 years. I have taken numerous advanced driving classes/courses. While serving as a Deputy Sheriff, I was certified as a Field Training Officer and a General Instructor through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. This had me teaching rookie police/deputies how to conduct emergency vehicle operations, pursuit driving and defensive driving. Additionally I spent 4 years in the U.S. Navy as a Master-at-Arms (Military Police).

I have a large passion for helping teens and adults of all ages to become safe, defensive and confident drivers. At 6’2″ and a little over 300lbs, I sometimes come off as scary upon first impression, but the students quickly learn I am a big teddy bear and am very patient. Even when you make mistakes. I look forward to us working together to make you the very best and safest driver you can be!

There is only one thing you should be doing when you're behind the wheel, and that is DRIVING! Everything else can wait. The next time you're tempted to focus on something other than the road, follow this lifesaving advice from our friends at the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles: PUT IT DOWN!

Sometimes videos get posted on Facebook that are important at the time they are posted but don't have a signifant impact on the present day.

Attached is a video that does not fit that paradigm but rather has just as much, and perhaps more relevance today, as when it was originally posted.

If you tell someone, especially young people, that they cannot text and drive an automobile they will probably agree with you but if they've done it and got away with it even once they really don't believe you.

The attached video puts some young drivers in a position on a test course that are told a new law is coming that they will be tested on their ability to demonstrate that they can text while driving or they won't be able to drive.
