It's one of my favorite days...International Dog Day! Today (and always!) is a great day to celebrate ALL companions, great and small.
πIt is also with great sadness that I share one of my neighborhood cats earned its wings yesterday. Over the years she was fed, loved and given a little wooden home with blankets around the corner from our place in Lisbon. She knew her caretaker well (SUCH a special woman), and always came out for feeding time and shared several enthusiastic 'meows'. Although this cat learned to navigate the busy streets for years, this one time she couldn't escape a rapidly approaching car. Her life was taken too soon. Her caretaker is devastated, and my heart breaks for them both.
It is for this reason that I share my only drawing of a cat today (who has also crossed the rainbow bridge π). Rest in peace...πββ¬

Another orchid to share, just completed today. I wanted to make this one burst with color. What do you think?

Even they understand...
We just love this stunning chimpanzee by member John Hanley Art.
John was inspired by this year's charity partner, Wild Welfare, this piece depicts the two emotions of Joy & Regret coexisting together. In this case the Joy of life with the Regret of captivity.

Ok, wow. A few people inquired about whether I create 'kitchen art', mainly herbs. I accept any requests, and love new challenges. β€οΈ
I have a couple different styles that I am exploring. On the left is 100% pastel, and on the right I sketched first with a pen (no tracing) then added pastel pencil. Any preferences?Nevermind the handwriting -- that's the hardest part -- I need to practice thatπ€£
I will be offering a 5x7" herb series, framed as shown in photos (unless requested otherwise). I'll offer discounts for groups of 3 or 5 herbal art. Please PM me if you're interested.
2025 is year of expansion!

I created this portrait of Juno a few weeks ago. It began as an experiment to see how much I could accomplish in a few hours, versus spending several days on a portrait. Although I was initially pleased with her portrait, I started to dwell on all of the areas that I felt needed adjusting. So I invested another handful of hours and am now much happier with the result!
Can you tell the difference? (Besides the camera lighting between the two photos π€£). For instance, the snout had way too much of an ice blue tone. I adjusted the snout, nose, eyes, fur, ears -- pretty much everything! In my opinion, and for what I am trying to achieve, it pays to take your time and go at your own pace -- within reason, of course!
