Today is Trans Day of Remembrance. It’s a day started by Gwendolyn Ann Smith in 1999 to remember Rita Hester, a black trans woman who was murdered the year before. Since then it’s grown to day for the trans community to mourn for our dead.

We’ve lost too many people to hate crimes, violence, and oppression. We remember all the names we know and honour all the siblings we never got to meet.

This year we’re hosting an online TDOR for anyone who wants to connect with other trans people but can’t make it to an event. We’ll be sharing thoughts, reflections, and art from trans people throughout the day here and on Twitter. If you’d like to add your perspectives send us a link or comment here.

We take today to mourn and remember, to hold space for each other to grieve and heal. And then we keep leading the changes we need to see as trans people for trans people with all the strength and creativity our community already has.

This bill is just the first step in a plan to have our constitutional right to privacy reinterpreted to no longer safeguard access to abortion. Given the attacks on access in neighboring states Florida could end up being the last place in the southeast where abortion is still accessible.

Call these legislators on the House Health & Human Services Committee who will hear the bill on Oct 22nd, and urge them to vote against House Bill 265 – the forced parental consent for abortion bill.
