Good evening,

Tonight was dress/tech rehearsal, and it didn't go as planned. Many were not prepared with their costume pieces, not prepared with their lines, blocking, or choreography, and were "goofing" off instead of following directions. This is why there was a late dismissal today because students did not follow clean up and costume procedures. Please have your child run through their lines, practice their songs and dances, and have their materials/costumes ready to go. My crew, specifically stagehands , were not prepared either with props and set changes. They need to work together as a team and follow along with the play.

Tomorrow students will stay after school until the show to get as much practice in as possible. Doors open at 6:15pm and the show starts at 7pm. Please remind your child they should not be talking backstage as it can be heard in the audience, especially when some students have microphones on them.

Tickets arrived today on campus, but during the day. Since I teach classes, I was not given the opportunity to sort and deliver hundreds of tickets today since there was a late arrival. As such, you can pick them up at will call. There will be a list of names that have already purchased tickets. If you need to buy tickets at the door, you may, but remember all seating is first come, first serve with the exception of those who sponsored the show and have VIP Premium seats as part of their package.

Students can be picked up AFTER the show and AFTER all costumes are accounted for and cleaned up. There will be no early release unless everyone has cleaned up. I have to make sure around 60 students have put away their items properly for the next show. There will be an opportunity to take pictures at the end of the show with all the students on stage, but remember there will be no video recording due to copyright laws and no flash photography. We have purchased live streaming rights to the show and as such, the link is attached below for out-of-towners or anyone who couldn't make the night show.

Thank you and have a lovely evening! 🎭

Today is Tech/Dress Rehearsal. Please have all students bring whatever they need for their character today. We will be rehearsing in full costume. As such, I am requesting that students also bring in some kind of shirt or something to go over their costume that is ok to get “messy” or “dirty” in case of spills during dinner tonight. They will leave the costume pieces and “messy” shirt at school until 5/17 for the last show.

For tickets, I am waiting to get them back from the printer that Mr. French had sent off last week. I’m assuming they’ll be here today for delivery. If not, I will let everyone know and we’ll just have to do will call.

Remember that today’s rehearsal goes until 7pm and the students will be having pizza from Jets tonight for dinner. Students can still bring a snack or an alternative if they’d like to. Dismissal is still in Zone 1.

Tomorrow, students will stay the whole school day and won’t leave until the end of the show. Again, students will be provided dinner.

There’s still many little “to-dos” from now until tomorrow, but we’re getting them done!

Also, please try to not have your child drink anything other than clear liquids from now until showtime (preferably just water). Any diary products tend to create (I know this is gross) mucus and as such it makes it more challenging to have a clearer voice when singing. Thank you!

We are soooooo excited and look forward to you seeing all the hard work that has taken place for this show!!!

Thank you for your support and your kids will thank you one day for picking them up so often from rehearsals!

Here’s to a wonderful dress rehearsal! 🎭

Hi Everyone!

I'm looking to see if we can borrow a tripod and digital video camera for the play. Anyone have one that we can use? If so, please message me. Thank you in advance. 😊

Hi Everyone!

Please see the attached photo for costume requirements. Anything highlighted in purple will be taken care of by me. All others will need to be provided from home. Also attached are some examples of the neutral/tan dress/tunics for the girls in case you needed an idea of what to look for. I got these images from Amazon, so if you're interested in those exact ones, I can send you the link. I encourage families to look around their house for articles of clothing first before borrowing or purchasing. ALL Crew need to wear black tops, black bottoms, and black/dark sneakers. Thank you all for your help in this matter. We are only 4 days out from the night show!

Edit: I forgot to mention that the clothing should be cotton material and look pretty casual, nothing formal, please. The people of Montunui wear basic clothing usually from what they could make. Thank you! Feel free to ask any questions if you need clarification! 🎭

2nd Edit (5/8 at 9:35pm): If you are a Lava Dancer, then please wear all black (top/bottom).

Hi Everyone!

***NEW UPDATES***

So there's been some updates as of today that are out of my hand due to state testing. Our daytime school performances for students has been pushed back due to state-wide testing for 4th and 5th grade (as most of our cast and crew are older students, this affects them greatly) . As such, Mr. French has told us to move the original dates of 5/9 (K-2nd grade) and 5/10 (3rd-5th grade) back a week. So now the daytime performances for K-2nd grade is now 5/16 and the one for 3rd-5th grade is now 5/17. The nighttime family (ticketed) event on 5/11 is still the same date/time as there are some family members and friends traveling from out of state to see the performance.

The daytime performances at school were supposed to be like "practice performances" to work out any kinks for the big ticketed event. Now that those have been pushed back, we still need that time to work on the show to make improvements and adjustments. As such, I am making some schedule changes. The original date of tech/dress rehearsal on 5/8 is being pushed back to 5/10. 5/8 and 5/9 will become regulars rehearsals from 3:30-5:30 and the tech/dress rehearsal will be on 5/10 from 3:30-7:00 (food provided for students for dinner). Please also hold the date of 5/15 as an emergency rehearsal if we need to fix some things. I will let you know if we need to hold that rehearsal or not depending on how the show goes on 5/11. I am aware that this last-minute schedule change affects everyone (including my family as well), so please make best efforts to attend as we REALLY need this time to work on the show and absences can be detrimental. I apologize as this matter is out of my hands and out of my control.

I may also be having to go into the school this weekend on Saturday, 5/6, to work on the show (specifically the set, props, sound, and lighting). If my crew (or anyone else) would like to attend please keep this day open as well. Further info to come...

Ticket sales are going well, and premium seats are filling up quickly. Remember to get in those order forms sooner rather than later as it is first come-first serve.

Business and Parent Ads are due tomorrow (5/3). I will also need all artwork/logo/business cards by tomorrow to be included in the playbill. I have to have the playbill ready for printing by Thursday.

In addition, more info will be coming out soon about costume pieces for cast/ensemble to acquire on their own ad well as crew clothing requirements.

Lastly, on the performance date of 5/11, students will be staying the whole day after school to rehearse a little and get ready for the show. Food will be provided for dinner.

More info to come as the show gets closer... 🎭

Children 5 and under are free.

ALL cast and crew are expected at EVERY rehearsal since we’ll be working on run throughs of the play and everyone is needed. Unless there is a family emergency, or if someone is sick (with a doctor’s note), no one should be missing any rehearsal for any other reason because it puts us way behind. Please respect the policy as it affects all other performers and crew members. There will be no leaving early from rehearsal. If someone is out due to a family emergency or a sickness (doctor’s note required from here on out), please notify me BEFORE rehearsal. Thank you!

Please make sure your child is working on their lines and OFF BOOK by now. They can also practice the music and dancing during non-rehearsal time to stay on top of it. Use the links from previous posts to access the songs and some of the dances. Repetition, repetition, repetition! 🎭
