Hello Tiger Families,
We are sharing this reminder and request regarding social media and technology use over the summer.
Extended vacations and idle time sometimes create the opportunity for children to become entangled in negative group chats or have feelings of sadness when viewing othersā summer experiences online.
As we begin summer vacation, we are already being contacted about some group chats that have spiraled out of control and have led to uncomfortable situations and feelings.
As is the case with most things, we believe in moderation and sleep to help our kids be happy and healthy. We hope that summer brings opportunities for our students to engage in face-to-face conversations and play dates with other kids, participate in group activities, and enjoy some time outside, away from screens and devices.
As school is out of session, we typically do not assign discipline or consequences to events that occur online, away from our campus, while school is not in session.
Please discuss the consequences of social media usage with your child during summer break. This would be a good time to go through your childās phone, pictures (hidden picture folder and deleted picture folder, too), and videos, and it would be a good time to consider installing a parental monitoring app like one of the other featured in this article: https://allaboutcookies.org/best-parental-control-apps. We have found that many students are savvy enough to create multiple social media accountsāone that their family may have access to, and another āalt/alternateā account that does not have age restrictions on them and can potentially put them in harmās way. We also suggest setting time boundaries for screen time, and taking away your child's phone/ipad/computer at night.
As a reminder, students and parents can use FortifyFlorida 24/7 (a suspicious activity reporting app) to report a potential threat or ideations of self-harm or su***de: https://getfortifyfl.com/ This will notify law enforcement and they can send out an officer to notify the family and do a wellness check.
Please feel free to reach out to a member of our Administrative team if you have any additional questions. We are on campus Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ask Ms Arcadia for the administrator on duty.
Thank you for your support & have a wonderful break,
Your SSA+S Family

What a fantastic last day of summer camp! We hope that our campers had as much fun as we did today. Team Sports headed to the Arcade on St. Armandās and were treated to gelato at Settimi's Gelato. Thank you so much for the cold treat on a hot day! Reading campers who completed their projects spent time at the beach. Anime camp indulged in Japanese snacks while Pickleball headed out to Sun and Fun. Drama camp performed their showcase for families to enjoy and S.T.E.M. camp held their Battle Bot Royal. Photography camp headed to Sarasota Garden club today and the Bayou Bridge. The focus was all about angles then headed back to the campus to complete their portfolios. Thank you to all for a great summer camp. Wishing all of our SSA+S families a relaxing summer break!
