Check out the work from Lily Bean, Visual Studies Class of 2026. Lily loves exploring various media, as seen in the attached pieces: 3D models made with Zbrush, digital illustrations on Photoshop and Procreate, puppets crafted from fleece, yarn, felt, and other materials, and paper square dolls.
We’re back with part 2 of our inside look at VISU 300! Michael Wyshock gives Visual Studies underclassmen some great advice on how to prepare and succeed in the class.
Check out our Visual Studies spotlight!

From the Guarani jungle to the canvas—Zeta Bengoechea '27, Visual Studies, yaguareté comes to life! 🐆 Zeta created this acrylic painting in her Illustration Media class with Braden Maxwell. Drawing from her Argentinian-Italian heritage, she chose the jaguar—a powerful symbol in Guarani culture, representing strength, protection, and a deep connection to nature. 🌿
🌟 Fun fact: The word jaguar originates from the Guarani language, yaguareté meaning "fierce beast."

Here is a Junior Spolight- Michael Drabkin!
In terms of why I chose Visual Studies, it was after a recommendation from my current roommate and great friend Lilli Maggio, and my friend Isaac Molethu! Both are in Visual Studies themselves. And after some stress with Motion Design last semester, those two really helped in making the transition easier. The major is appealing to me because it gave the opportunity to break out of a cycle I had with my previous major, and try something new. To follow a new direction, and to give myself the opportunity to grow in other skill sets like research writing, networking, etc. Always learning, always aiming to better myself and taking a risk.
My projected thesis is, thus far, a pitch bible for a comic book/graphic novel/animated series. (Still working out in my head on which one. 😂 )
As much as I enjoyed Motion Design, I've wanted to make my thesis something that envelopes what I've loved doing since I was younger, drawing! At my own pace, and challenging myself in going outside of comfort zone, creating a whole world with building infrastructures, story outlines, etc.
