Today marked the final session of our Play Reading Club: Get to Know Gunderson. Led by James Monaghan, Director of New Works and Dramaturgy, participants spent the past year diving into the works of acclaimed playwright Lauren Gunderson. The readings spanned from her most well-known plays, like “I and You,” to “Lady Disdain,” a brand-new work premiering at the Asolo. The group was even treated to a special guest appearance by Lauren herself this spring! We are incredibly grateful for a year of wonderful discussions and community.

Can’t wait!

Join us for our final ASL-interpreted performance of the season! Catch the interpreted matinee of Lady Disdain on Sunday, June 14 at 1:30 PM.

Lady Disdain is a fast-paced, razor-sharp riff on the deliciously dramatic world of Fantasy Romance novels (yes, those ones—you know them, you love them). Beatrice and Benedict, rival audiobook narrators, are locked in a battle of wits, words, and wildly inconvenient attraction.

To get details or purchase ASL-designated seating, email [email protected]! ASL-reserved seats are not available online, so please contact us directly to secure yours.

In a wonderful show of community support, the Howard Club presented flowers to cast member Alexis J. Roston (Marie Knight), who is a Howard University alumna!

On Monday night, Asolo Rep Education and Engagement teamed up with the Sarasota African American Cultural Coalition for a powerful Community Conversation at the Historic Leonard Reid House.

Inspired by our production of Marie & Rosetta, community members gathered for an evening of meaningful dialogue to reflect on the legacy of Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Marie Knight. Together, we celebrated the rich history and impact of Gospel and Rock and Roll music. We are incredibly grateful for opportunities to connect outside the theater, and we look forward to hosting more Community Conversations in the future!
