Welcome to my piano studio page!
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Grace Martin, I am a pianist and piano teacher centered in the Syracuse NY area. I studied with some of the best piano teachers in the country at St. Olaf College and the University of Idaho. My background is in many genres including Classical repertoire (solo and collaborative), Jazz (bands and small groups), Choir, Sacred Music, Musical Theater, Opera and Gospel (and organ coming soon!!).
At the keyboard I teach classical piano technique that prioritizes healthy and integrated use of the body in order to have the greatest control of the instrument without incurring injury. I also teach artistry, music reading, as well as improvisation methods which can be applied in a myriad of styles from church prelude music to small group jazz to pop music. My background in collaborative performance also equips me to prepare students looking to play with other musicians. If it involves chords a lead sheet or sheet music, we can tackle it together!
Overall, my goal for my students is to help them achieve THEIR goals as a person looking to express themselves (or even make some cash) from playing music.
