About ECA (Currently, we have a waitlist), but I wanted to tell about our Covering/Co-op and hopefully answer questions you may have about us and homeschooling in Alabama.
We are a ministry under Wilson Avenue Baptist Church. We are so thankful and bless to be here!!
We are a parent led co-op, meaning our teachers are parents. We use Christian based curriculum for our classes and our parents stay on campus. There are multiple volunteer opportunities for parents during co-op. In addition to classes, we do fieldtrips, have special events at co-op, dress up days, spirit days - we have a basketball team for middle and high school boys, volleyball team for middle and highschool girls, homecoming dance, prom, yearbook, transcripts for Seniors, Senior breakfast and Senior walk, graduation for kindergarten and Seniors. Anyone under covering can also participate in these activities.
There's 3 ways to legally homeschool in Alabama. https://hslda.org/legal/alabama
Homeschool Legal Defense Association has updated information, we strongly suggest homeschool families join. It's easy to homeschool in Alabama at the present. I tell families while it's easy now, we never know how a new state administration could change the laws. There's no particular curriculum required, you are free to choose curriculum that fits your family. Noone knows your child's needs better than you.
Membership Dues for new families - $135.00 and covers the year. If you join in January, the family membership is prorated. Co-op class fee's vary from $5.00 - $45.00 for each semester.
We do allow independent teens age 16 and up who drive upon approval. The independent Teen fee is $50. However, we do strongly encourage families to help out. (Currently, these spots are filled)
Our fall co-op classes started September 11th and will end on December 4th. Spring Co-op classes will begin January 15th and end April 16th.
Most importantly, in addition to supplementing your child's education, we want ECA to be a place where we help point our students and families to Jesus! We have open door policies that align with the core values of Wilson Ave Baptist Church. And if you don't have a church home, consider this your special invitation to join us on Sundays - 10 am!
