To clarify, we had to change final exams, Senior Breakfast, and Senior Awards Day original dates as the College Board AP exam dates changed (which we had no control over). Students received a revised calendar of events the end of February at a senior meeting.
Cords -
Students can purchase cords directly from their club sponsors if they are active members of NHS, THS, Mu Alpha Theta, Tri-M, or Leo Club.
Students can purchase cords directly from their teachers for certifications earned in courses such as Microsoft Specialist, CNA, CPCT, Python, Revit, Autodesk. NCCER cords can be purchased at front office (Mrs. Stringer).
The 3.0 or higher cords, Latin Honor Cords, and Advanced Honors Medallions won't be available to purchase until after final exams are completed and all final GPA's have been calculated; the date of sale will be announced, but will most likely be around May 8/9.
Scholarship Offers -
Very few seniors have turned in documentation of their scholarship offers. They were asked to turn in a blue form (given to them in January to keep track of scholarship offers) along with copies of the letters, emails, or screenshots from their college accounts. We need all scholarship offers (academic, athletic, leadership, fine arts (band/dance/art/choir/theatre) even if they aren't accepting them or don't plan on attending scholarship night.
A significant number of seniors said they didn't know they had scholarship offers as they have not checked their college student accounts. They were informed to check their college accounts regularly as that is how the college will contact them regarding everything that is needed. We had students try to fill out the scholarship offer forms today in an assembly but it is doubtful we have all of the correct information.
We can only go by what the students turn in as far as scholarship offers. Please make sure your senior is turning in all documentation by tomorrow if at all possible (it was due April 11th).
Scholarships -
We have been posting tons of scholarship opportunities throughout the year on Schoology Class of 2025. All seniors have access to this information. Parent access codes were provided in August in the yellow senior folder of information so parents would be able to see all of the resources on Schoology Class of 2025.
There are still scholarship opportunities and very few seniors are applying for them. I had only 10 seniors apply for the Cntrl Your Future Essay Contest to win a free laptop, for the Saraland High School Scholarship ($5000), and the William Silver Memorial Scholarship ($500).
Tomorrow, the Integrity for Saraland High Athletes Scholarship and the Monica Thomas Memorial Scholarship apps are due. On 5/2, the Miss Saraland High Legacy Scholarship, the Logan Farnell Memorial Scholarship, the Cody Rubenstein Memorial Scholarship (for future teachers), and the USA AAA Wings of Opportunity Scholarship (aviation) are due. On 5/7, the Where There's A Will, There's a Way Scholarship is due. Someone from Saraland High wins all of these scholarships.
