500 yard cold bore targets from last 2 matches. Left target is from yesterday, I split the win with Dennis Hays we were both .336 inches from dead center. Right target is last months, Dennis beat me by about 1/4 inch. Wind reading is a skill that I struggle with. I am getting better but it requires extreme concentration to beat the other shooters in this match. We have one match a month 12 matches a year, come on out, and take your accuracy to another level. 40 dollars gets you entered in the main match. 5 bucks get you in the cold bore jackpot. All rounds fired at 500 yards, no sighters. Cold bore shot is 1 round at a playing card at 500 yards, closest to center of crosshairs wins. Match is 2 relays of 10 rounds at 500 yards. You choose from a 10in, 6in, 4in, or 3inch plate. 10in is worth 1 point, 6inch is worth 2 points, 4inch is worth 3 points, and 3inch is worth 4 points. The objective is to score high enough to make the top 8 in score to move into our old school 5 and drive. It is heads up 5 rounds to beat the shooter next to you. Highest score advances, all ties shoot 3 inch plate only. We tally points for entire year and high point winner wins a custom hand made belt buckle. 2nd place this year will receive a custom hand made Keychain. I want to thank all of our shooters that come out month after month, we are all pushing each other to be better.

As many of you know, we had our monthly 500 yard shoot on Sunday. I did not make the finals, because I shot a terrible first round. However, the second round was a different story, I used part of the first round to finish fouling my gun and it cost me a chance to shoot in the finals. The second round I shot a 36 out of a possible 40 points. I shot 4, 4 inch plates, and 6, 3 inch plates. After my 17 points in the first round it gave me a 53 total out of a possible 80 points, not enough, it took 59 to make the finals. This match is tough and will make you a better shooter. There was a time that 52 points would get you into the finals, in every match. Not anymore, you can not miss a plate, and you better be able to tag the 3 inch plate on command. If you want to improve your shooting, reloading, and overall match performance, this little match will help you do that. $40 entry fee, pays back better than most other matches and you get to increase your knowledge. Next match is Dec 15th and it is our year end Finals, yes we do tally all scores for the year and we do recognize our top 10 shooters for the year. Let's just say, being in the top 10 here is an accomplishment and means you can compete with the best shooters in the country. Come get you some and bring your A++ GAME, it ain't easy and these guys show no mercy!

New project is coming together. I received my action from Pristine Actions, found a stock, traded for a Jewell trigger, still waiting for a trigger guard, should be here today or tomorrow. Going with a 30" 1 in 8 twist 284 Win barrel from Criterion.

What a day, saw multiple shoot offs, I had a shoot off in the finals, and just could not finish. Congrats to David Brooks on the win, I ran out of bullets in the shoot off and borrowed Rodney's gun for one final shot. David hit the three and I missed. I think I missed the 4 inch plate 3 times, yesterday, out of 27 shots at it, and I missed the 3 inch in the shoot off in the finals to come in 2nd. I had my highest qualifying score to date at 54 points out of a possible 80. To shoot a perfect qualifying score you would have to shoot 20 shots in a row on the 3 inch at 500. That is not impossible but everything would have to be perfect for that to happen. If you want to practice for that put up a 1/2 inch dot at 100 yards and shoot 20 rounds thru it. That is how hard it would be! I want to thank all the shooters that continue to come to the match, we are all lifting each other to new heights. I remember when you could shoot the 5 inch plate all day and make the finals, in the old match format. Now you better be wearing out 4 inch and 3 inch plates or you won't make it through the qualifier. I am excited for the finals on the 17th and once again I just hope to make the top 10 for the year.
I will continue to say this, the core group of shooters in this match are some of the best that Texas has, and if you come to shoot, you better bring your A++ GAME. Let's get it on December 17th!!!

ALERT.....ALERT

Do to continued questions in regards to our 500 yard range. We will now require all users of the 500 to qualify by shooting a 5 shot group on the pictured target. The rules are simple, any rifle you want to use on the 500 yard range must be able to shoot a 5 shot group at 100 yards, on the playing card. The 500 yard range has steel at 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards, so if you want to shoot 200 yards this target is still required. If your gun and ammo combination is good this should be no problem, if your setup is not capable of this, then it needs work. This is a standard playing card, no tricks just a 5 shot group on the card. Now understand you also need to know your D.O.P.E. how much do need to dial to shoot 500 yards? If you have questions about this do the research before you come out to shoot. How heavy is your bullet, how fast is it running, what is the BC of your bullet, so you can effectively figure the elevation required to shoot 500. So there you go, put a 5 shot group on the card and know what is required for that setup to shoot 500. If your running a BDC optic you still need to know what to dial to shoot 500. This way you can dial and shoot the plate and then have an exact number to be able to figure out where your BDC reticle lines up, it will not be exact. All current 500 yard members are grandfathered in, but on renewal of your membership you will need to shoot this target.
