A few photos from biology week. The kids had all been loving the card game Muddles from Big Potato Games, asking to play it every day and pretending to be muddle animals at the playground. This week’s maker space challenge was to sculpt a muddle out of clay and then build a habitat for their creature. We also thoroughly enjoyed observing and conducting experiments with earthworms. Our favorite biology books were ”The Good Germ Hotel,” and “Battle of the Butts: The Science Behind Animal Behinds.”

Last week was Chemistry Week. We got familiar with some important vocabulary through our activities: solid, liquid, gas, acid, base, indicator, solution, suspension, and chemical reaction. The highlight of the week was making “potions.”

We continued our water theme this week by exploring what makes objects float, and building our own boats. The week culminated with our tin foil river.

This week’s theme for Summer Enrichment was water. We did several experiments to demonstrate some special properties of water, particularly adhesion and cohesion. Our maker space challenge was: “can you make a water slide?” The kids all worked hard constructing and problem solving, and especially liked testing them out with toy animals and real water. We also had water play day with reusable water balloons, squirters, and some water baseball.

If you are interested in more learning and story times with Ms. Andie, I will be providing some Zoom classes at rosebudtutoring.com. “Collection Math” and “Puppet Preschool,” taught by me, are starting soon. A range of classes, taught by qualified teachers, are available for children from Pre-k to Upper Elementary.

This website has lots of brief blog posts written by parents with the real language they use to talk to their kids about race. I am finding it very helpful in building my confidence and understanding. As a lover of children's books and all they can teach us, I particularly liked this article.
Why I want to read books with protagonists of color to my White son - Raising Race Conscious Children by guest blogger Suzanne Feinspan I loved reading as a kid. Weekly trips to the library and monthly ones to the bookstore were some of the highlights of my childhood. I still have a strong sentimental attachment to many of...
