Wes Haskell, Rock Class Coordinator at Staump Music School, was recently recognized by K**I as their January Community Champion, & it couldn’t be more deserved.

Wes grew up right here in Santee & attended Rio Seco & West Hills. For the past 15 years, he’s been giving back to the same community that shaped him, working with hundreds of local students & families through music. Many of the kids he supports have diverse learning, social, & emotional needs, & Wes has an incredible way of meeting each student where they are & helping them grow with confidence.

Through music & teamwork, Wes helps students build connection, self-esteem, & a sense of belonging. Families throughout East County know him not just as a music teacher, but as a steady, positive presence in their children’s lives.

At Staump, we talk a lot about going beyond the notes & Wes lives that out every single week. His leadership, heart, & commitment have made a lasting impact on so many young people right here in Santee.

We are incredibly proud to share that Wes Haskell, Rock Class Coordinator and longtime teacher at Staump Music School, was selected as K**I’s January Community Champion 💙

For the past 15 years, Wes has been a driving force behind our rock program, leading dozens of band classes each week and supporting hundreds of students and families. As our Rock Class Coordinator, Wes doesn’t just teach — he leads, mentors, and helps shape an environment where students feel confident, supported, and excited to show up.

At Staump, we believe in going Beyond the Notes — and teachers like Wes make that philosophy real every day. Through music, he helps students build confidence, connection, and a true sense of belonging, especially those with diverse learning, social, and emotional needs. His ability to meet each student where they are and help them grow at their own pace is truly special.

Wes builds trust with students and families alike, creating a community that extends far beyond the studio walls. He encourages teamwork, celebrates progress in all its forms, and helps students discover what they’re capable of — both on stage and off.
