The Katherine Wheeler Dancers The Katherine Wheeler Dancers The first shows performed were for convalescent hospitals throughout Sonoma County during the Christmas season that year.

In September of 1977 the Katherine Wheeler Dancers opened their doors for the first time in the Sonoma Community Center offering tap, jazz, and basic tumbling to students of all ages three and over (including adults). Due to the amount of exposure received during those shows we were invited to perform at fashion shows for the Montgomery Village stores, and at local grammar schools. In 1979 some of

our students danced for the mayor of San Francisco. Throughout the years students, feeling confident in their training, have danced independently in talent shows throughout the county (i.e., Sonoma County Fair, Sonoma County Harvest Fair, the Santa Rosa Exchange Club Talent Search, Miss Sonoma County). One of our students went on to become Miss California and even tapped her way into the final 10 of the Miss America Pageant. The Katherine Wheeler Dancers are considered to be one of the hottest performing troupes in the North Bay. Each year since 1977 the studio year is capped with its annual June Review to a growing and enthusiastic audience. For the last 10 years these have been held at Spreckels Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park, one of the county’s most professional and state-of-the-art venues. The success of the studio has been due largely to the constant striving of our teachers and students for near perfection in their efforts to perform and learn the art of dance.

The Showstoppers Nationals in Disneyland has been a wonderful end to the successful competition season for KWD. Makena Kithcart has been dancing with KWD since the age of 3 and started competing at 5 !! She has all First Place awards,and holds several titles. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Makena and her parents for their trust and loyalty and allowing me to be part of their daughters dance adventure. It has been awesome!!!
