Recently, three of the MWUSD teachers attended the CAL MSCS sharecase at SCOE. This sharecase celebrated the learning and work of partner educators. Thought this program, educators learned more about the potential to integrate Computer Science and Microbits into Math and Science curriculum.

At last night’s Board of Trustees Meeting, the Board welcomed 8th grade students from Ms. Dickey’s class at Mark West Charter School. The students presented their Algebra “Slope Quilt” project.
This hands on project required students to demonstrate technical proficiency in Algebra while collaborating effectively to complete a large-scale, shared final project. Such a creative way to teach the technical proficiencies of the subject matter! The Board also appreciated learning about how each student’s part of the quilt represented their way of grasping the technical concepts. Thank you Ms. Dickey and students! Wonderful presentation!

During a recent walk thru at John B. Riebli Elementary, Superintendent Valenzuela was accompanied by our Director of Instruction and Student Services; the principals from John B. Riebli and Mark West Elementary; and a representative from the Sonoma County Office of Education.

The focus of the visit was to observe our Orton Gillingham trained teachers demonstrate this reading approach with students.

At Tuesday night’s Regular Board of Trustees Meeting, students from Ms. Esposito’s 6th grade class at Mark West Elementary presented their 3D models following a unit on organelles and the function of plant and animal cells. Students shared their knowledge of how each part functions together and individually; what a cell membrane controls; cytoplasm; and the powerhouse of a cell, the mitochondria. The visuals reflected in each of their 3D cells were very creative and the student’s knowledge of the subject matter was outstanding! Congratulations students, very well done!

What a wonderful night we had last night at the Winter Music Concert! Our talented students, under the direction of our incredible Music Teacher, Kara Kaufman, are provided the opportunity to pursue their talents through participation in choral and/or a variety of instruments. A wonderful evening highlighting this outstanding program!

During Tuesday night’s Regular Board Meeting, students from Ms. Gonsalves’ and Ms. Farrell’s classes at John B. Riebli shared their “13 Colony One Pager” reports. Students were provided the opportunity to pick their colony and then research fun and interesting facts about that colony. The Board thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and even learned some things they didn’t know! Well done, teachers and students! Riebli rocks!
