Let's talk about BEAT

Fun Fact: Our Intellidance® curriculum includes beat-keeping activities to support language development, emphasizing the significance of rhythm!

❤️ Our first experience with beat happens in utero at around 22 weeks when babies are able to hear their mother’s heartbeat. The mother’s heartbeat becomes the unborn baby’s soundtrack, wiring the brain for the ability to identify beat by as early as 2 months of age.

🧠 In order to identify beat a baby’s brain must first be able to filter and differentiate between sounds. This supports the development of sound discrimination; the ability to hear differences and similarities in sounds, and filter out unneeded auditory stimuli, like background noise.

👂👄 The ability to differentiate sounds is key to learning language, while the ability to filter out unneeded stimuli is critical to developing focus which is needed in learning new tasks and is important to future academic success.

Because motor skills aren’t automatic yet, dancing takes all their brainpower. To help them listen and follow directions:
✔️ Repeat activities often
✔️ Have them sit or be still before giving new instructions
