Our Journey

Compass Rose Academy was founded in March of 2008. The idea for the school was generated by a small group of parents who were looking to provide the highest level of education possible for their children. This group of parents wanted a school that would allow their children to learn in an environment where they would be challenged and encouraged, respected and acknowledged, motivated

and loved. We started as a home school program for 12 children. Most of Sherry Hartley’s, co-founder of CRA, home was turned into a Montessori style classroom. We spent the year working with students and developing our baseline curriculum. By the end of that year it was time to find a new home for CRA. We moved into two rooms at The Market Shops of Sandestin. The school remained at this location for three-and-half years. We spent this time growing our program, reinforcing our curriculum, and becoming an area leader in academics. In 2012, Compass Rose Academy moved again. We found a beautiful piece of property in Blue Mountain Beach and it is here that we have created our forever home for Compass Rose. Christine Buscarello, Co-founder of CRA

Community Education Center:

Throughout the year CRA opens its doors & offers great programs to the children of our community. All of our Community Education Center programs have been designed to inspire, educate, and encourage children to learn. Every summer we offer a Summer Day Camp that allows children to learn and play. We also offer a summer learning program called Jump Start. This program is a summer group tutoring session that allows children to get a head start on the up coming school year. During the school year, we offer tutoring and other programs. Over the years we have hosted many different after school programs including art, science, history, writing, reading comprehension practice, cooking, foreign language, and math. Private Day School:

Our day school program offers a unique and positive learning opportunity for all students. We serve students PreK through the 6th grade. At Compass Rose we use a blend of hands-on curriculum and a more traditional workbook curriculum that allows for a multi-sensory approach to learning. Each classroom is set up to serve multiple grade levels and we always keep an 8-to-1 student/teacher ratio. How We Teach:

Learning at CRA is tailor made for each student. Daily work plans are written for each student individually. This allows the teachers to provide each student with exactly what they need. This method ensures that students are independent in their learning while being supported through one-to-one and small group lessons. Through an accelerated workbook curriculum, hands-on support materials, and advanced technology programs, students at CRA are always engaged in the learning process and are on the road to becoming the doctors, lawyers, scientist, journalist, and business leaders of tomorrow!
