The place of business is located at the well renowned Santa Paula Airport (KSZP) centrally located just outside Los Angles. The airport is located three

miles from only one of two wavered aerobatic boxes in southern California. Chris Olmsted (owner and CEO of Olmsted Aviation LLC) is an aviation educator and enthusiast with extensive experience in the art of aerobatic flight. As a Certified Flight Instructor, Certified Aerobatic Judge and an Certified Air-frame and Power-plant Aircraft Technician he has over twelve years of professional experience with over thirty five hundred hours fight experience including one thousand hours of aerobatic flight, all before the age of thirty. Olmsted is the president of The Los Angeles Aerobatic Club (International Aerobatic Club Chapter 49) and acts as Contest Director of the annual Duel in the Desert Aerobatic Contest. He is an active board member of The Santa Paula Flying Club and a Co-founder of The Figure 1 Foundation, that provides aviation scholarships to kids in need.

Putting on the Flexjet uniform marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. I’ve already met some fantastic people and discovered great opportunities, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me. For now, I’m thoroughly enjoying my time flying the Phenom 300.

Todays test flight was a success after 20 years in a museum. This 1935 Cabin Class Waco CUC is now 1 of 2 flying in the world. Tomorrow morning it will start it’s journey back to Santa Paula, California where it was based in the 1970s & 1980s.

Anyone who flys aerobatics needs to know how to do this. A crossover spin is unfortunately a very common mistake especially with low altitude aerobatics. In this example an inverted spin yawning left turns into a upright spin yawning right. With a negative angle of attack stall/ spin the elevator is forward. This spin recovery was done correctly with exception of the last step. Instead of correctly neutralizing the elevator to break the stall the stick is pulled back which induces a positive angle of attack stall/ spin yawning right. What was opposite rudder in the inverted spin is now pro spin rudder. This over control of the elevator normally happens close to the ground because no one is immune to ground rush.

Why you never look away from the nose in a spin… In this inverted spin you can see the airplane rolling right and yawing left as viewed from the pilot seat. In this case you need right rudder to recover. When you look away from the nose you see more roll component and less yaw. Tip- the yaw visual is most prevalent when you look down the side of the cowling.
