The PURPOSE of the Empowerment and Engagement Coalition (EEC) is to UNITE, CONNECT, and EMPOWER college-bound African American males in grades 7-12 in private and independent schools throughout the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. Our inaugural event was inspired by a desire of Independent School educators to harness the energy, vitality, and spirit of this generation of African Americans males, specifically addressing the vacuum of opportunities for our young men to gather, connect, and share their stories in a safe and nurturing space. There is no Morehouse west of the Mississippi, therefore we had to create our own version of that experience on a smaller scale.
